Why is Nick Aldis the general manager of smack down?

I get that he's solid on the Mic but he's a fairly decent worker as well who could have some fresh matches, and he's not old, is he injured or had to retire or something?

And before anyone @s me and says Nick Aldis isn't a great worker, I never said he was, just that he's a solid hand who can fit into that Seamus/Drew Mcintyre type spot as a guy you can call on to have a solid match.
