Haven't had a job interview in awhile. Are they still as cringey as ever?

Haven't had a job interview in awhile. Are they still as cringey as ever?
Looking back at job interviews they are such a silly process of "selecting the right candidate". Seems like the interviewer is self entitled and isn't as important as they think they are
Asking someone why they want to work for your company
Provide references (like someone is going to give a bad reference)
Tell me more lies as to why you are a good worker
LOL what a stupid process
Last interview I had was a good eight years ago and hopefully I will never have another one before I retire but I remember it was a group interview and there was 8 of us, and 4 interviewers (2 HR people and 2 licensed tradesman)
Every other candidate gave the same song and dance about how they loved to work with their hands from a young age and love figuring out how things work. I went last and decided to go yolo with my answer and said something along the lines of "I came here because you guys are a good paying company and I want to make money. I didn't dream of being a Machinist when I was young but was told that's where the jobs are so I did what it took to become qualified. I know it's called work for a reason so you can expect me to show up every day and do my job. Simple as that"
The 2 HR girls mouths dropped to the floor and the 2 trades supervisors smirked.
Needless to say I got the job and have been there ever since but the one supervisor who was my immediate supervisor told me he loved my no BS response and vetoed for me to get hired
long story short job interviews are stupid
no real point to the thread but tell good stories if you like lol
