Im dreading when they die and I have to deal with all of this stuff.

They bought a HUUGE house for cheap in the 80s thats appreciated a chit ton and have filled it to the brim with knick knacks, old shoes that are never worn, a garage with shelves full of junk, a million end tables, cheap dressers, lamps, etc. Theres like 1,000 towels upstairs in the hall bath closet, old shampoo and lotion bottles for guest to use that are from the bush administration.

its madness. like the home isn't ready to be on Hoarders or anything, but theres just so much stuff.

Office has a crappy computer my Dad barely uses with shelves full of old software installation CD Roms.

Anyone else getting feels reading this? How did boomers have so much money to buy all of this stuff?

You can put a bunch to auction. I enjoyed sifting through my grandparents stuff and actually use some of the stuff.

My dad was immediately throwing stuff out when grandma went to a home, he probably threw away money. As soon as I got there I stopped him but he had already done 2 dump runs. Should seen the look on his face when I showed him all the hidden money I found.

Old people hide money, thats right, so make sure you check every box and every book. I found $600 in just one jacket alone.

I've taken over my dad's house since he entered aged care. Been here since 1976 gathering junk. It's a months long task sorting, throwing, and getting things how I want. My own childhood toys are here too which is pretty nostalgic see them.

My grandmother’s home is like this (she’s a boomer, my parents are Gen X) down to the Windows ME PC in her office with floppy disks lol. My grandpa had an entire hardware store’s worth of tools in the basement before he died (srs no exaggeration). There are 50+ years worth of things laying around, but I think it’s cool. Think about it, old people lived long lives and had more disposable income during their era that they could use to collect various items. They earned it. Plus they were raised by depression parents who taught them to hold onto chit. Meanwhile my apartment is basically bare bones. Besides my couch, TV, appliances, etc. there’s nothing. It’s just open space.
