Don't ever do wheel alignment at Discount Tire

- Got a nail in my front tire

- Went to discount tire to patch it up, they inflated it to 36 psi while my other tires were at 31 which I find out later, they didn't bother to check.

- Car was drifting to the right slightly a day after, so I check my PSI and the one they patched was inflated to 36 while my others were 31. I figured the drifting it could have something to do with the over inflation on the front tire

- Went back to another location and did a wheel alignment, tire rotation, and balancing. Spec sheet came out good, green in all areas.

- 2 days later car was drifting to the right even worse than before

- I go today to do another wheel alignment

- When they were done the mgr said I'm good to go without showing me the diagnostic screening like he was trying to hide something from me. Cause the mechanic had a length convo with the mgr when they saw the screening.

- He comes out and says I'm good to go. I said hold one wait a minute. I asked for it and the screening came out red on the right rear wheel -2.6 degrees camber, which IDEK what it means but it's RED and not GREEN so I knew something was off

- "Ok why is it still red"? He said "it's okay it's still in spec you should be fine". But then I said why is it red and why does it say on the bottom if it's red that the alignment is not in good condition and must be done (literally in fine print lmao)? And they went off on a tangent of bogus mechanical terms IDEK wtf they were talking about.

- So I drive out for a minute and behold! The alignment is even worse than before, literally 5 inches to the right and I have to hold left just to go straight... ridiculous.

- I go back and get my refund.

What's funny is they were trying to turn it on me saying it's fishy how I come back a week after to get it checked out.. I must have hit a curb or something. I said no I came back a week later cause I work M-F and I didn't call immediately when I noticed it (when I should have)

What's also funny is the guy behind me asked for a alignment and they said oh sorry we don't do it at this location. It's like they know they ****ed up and can't do it anymore

Unfortunately I lost the diagnostic paper the 1st time I did it but I am keeping the 2nd one

if an alignment shop can get you in the same day, stay away. Good ones usually stay booked a week out

Feel like something similar happened with mine. I don't want to name them because im not sure what's going on, but I took it to them twice for an alignment and it still feelsoff. It's not horrible but noticeable at interstate speeds. I went to them because I got my tires from them; The alignment is free if you bought their tires.

I just had my alignment done at a chain tire shop in my area. The car didn't feel off before, but it did have some odd uneven wear on the wrong two tires. It was confirmed ONE of the fronts was out by a bit, per the report they printed out for me.

But what gets to me is they told me when it was done "you might still feel a pull to the rightbecause there are no specs on what they should be set at for your car" lol wat. And I dunno it does pull a bit to the right now, which I didn't notice before... but maybe it had been doing that before? I dunno. I guess I'll find out soon enough if my car is fcked up

First of all the green & red mean nothing; 2 degrees is not going to put you out of specification

Second "camber" has nothing to do with your car pulling, that would be called "toe"

Third I find it hard to beleaf a discount tire has an alignment rack, they're $50,000+ & uncommon because of that; wheel alignments are far beyond the scope of tire/lube mechanic ability

Fourth who the hell gets an alignment when they get a nail in their tire, put a plug in it & move on

Fifth & most importantly; getting an alignment will do nothing if part(s) in your suspension are worn out or the frame(unibody) are bent

This most likely wasn't the shop's fault at all

Camber doesn't make a car pull, only caster and toe.

This is why I go to a performance shop that specializes in alignments. Even if my car has stock factory suspension I'll still go there. They actually know what they're doing.

Did you even read my post?

I got the alignment after driving for a few days after the initial patch/nail fix was done. There were no alignment issues before I got my tire patched in the first place. This all started occurring after the subsequent patching and alignment.

The only thing that changed was they inflated the patched tire to 36 psi and didn't inflate the other tires to match it.

There was no arguing on my end. I did not have an attitude nor was I offensive to any of them. I simply and kindly asked for a refund as the alignment issues still persisted right out of the lot after the second time.

I paid $99 for a specific service so I expect it to be done. Do you not comprehend the fact that customers are entitled to the services they pay for else they should receive a refund if the other end of the transaction was not fulfilled?

Brb that's like going to a doctor and telling them you're having respiratory problems, and they tell you you need to get a lung transplant when you only just have asthma.

Yeah I asked them about that before bringing it back in, they said their alignment machine they run before the operation should be able to detect those types of issues and shouldn't even be able to allowed to let them do an alignment if any thing like that has gone awry.

If I had other issues that would have made an alignment unnecessary in the first place - don't you think it's their job to aware the customer of doing that before making them pay for a service that is essentially useless?

Well believe it, then... It's a new service only a select few locations have started doing since April 2023.
First of all the green & red mean nothing; 2 degrees is not going to put you out of specification
According to their own expertise and their own spec sheet a -2.6 degree camber was RED and it said on the page itself in giant bold red letters that this could cause further issues in driving - hence (if you actually bothered to read my post accurately) they tried to hide the spec sheet from me the second time in the hopes I'd drive away like a retard.

My Discount Tire said for alignments I had to go to the dealer? Anyways, they've patched my tires for free before I even bought new tires from them. Never had an issue, but they are always booked out.

yep there is a noticeable difference between having a sloppy mechanic set everything randomly within the huge "green" tolerance range, and having one take the time to dial it in symmetrically.

i get a little extra toe-in in the front, doesn't really affect tire wear but makes everyday cars track like they're on rails on the hwy.

A few incorrect things to point out, First the red and green DO mean something. The alignment software preloads the specs for each vehicle whenever an alignment is performed. So if its green its within the spec for the vehicle. Red is obviously out of spec. -2.6 degrees of negative camber can absolutely cause problems with the vehicle tracking straight if the other side is anywhere close to zero or worse if it is positive camber. In regards to the OP's vehicle, if the right rear has that much camber on the right side with the left being perfect the rear of the vehicle is essentially being pushed to the left since the right rear wheel is leaning inward.

Secondly while toe can cause a "pull", camber also can as well. A perfect example is what I described above.

If you had -2.6 degrees of camber on a wheel, it should have been visually obvious.

But yeah, a reputable shop will show you the printout right away to try and show you that they actually did work and made an improvement.

I’ve had good experience with discount tire just getting tires. The ones around her don’t do alignment.

But yeah like other guy said, go to a dedicated alignment shop with a wait time or you’ll be dealing with a kid that only knows to adjust tie rods until the computer tells him it’s green and knows nothing beyond that.

Always go to a dealer. Never had a problem with them zero'ing out the alignment. Most tire shops can't do anything besides toe in or out.
