Anything that inherently requires being fed live food other than crickets is a no go for me. That's way too much hassle for a pet that is guaranteed to be a huge pita all around.

Any sort of spiders/insects are awful pets. I could make an exception for an ant farm, but that's it. I honestly think anyone who would want to own these as hobbiest pets is a gross weirdo.

I own a couple of cats and no dogs. I like dogs, but the reality is, I don't feel I have a sufficient setup for a dog. Maybe once I get my yard the way I want it so a dog could live in it/the garage 95% of the time.

The cats are just cool company with zero bs. They are actually both quite friendly for cats, and they like people. One in particular warms right up to anyone. So they hang out with me whenever I want really, but they are also independent enough for me to tell them to F off and leave me alone for a bit without it being the end of the universe like it is for a dog. And I don't feel bad about leaving them on their own, they can go 3 - 4 days without even being checked on before their food and litter box situations become an issue.
