I see enough hate on AAs on this site every day.
Representing for the 3% of AA architects here in the US
Been licensed since 2016. I mostly work on educational projects (K-12/College)

Mirin hard srs. I always wanted to get into architecture, urban planning or development, but I never went to college so that dream is dead. Looks like you do a lot of interesting, fulfilling and very rewarding work. You are contributing to society in a positive way. GJDM.

LOL, I've only worked on one HBCU. You cater design to your client and user group.

Just the design. Zoning is basically the local law/restrictions. So we have to work within that. A lot of colleges, especially the big ones like Univ. of GA, Georgia Tech, basically operate like they're own city and have their own rules/zoning, it's kinda cool.

Plus the immediate area is not 'the view'. Our eyes see far into the distance.

How much do you make? What does it take to make millions like other architects? Always wanted to do Architecture but it takes dedication. 6 years. And I've read it's not the absolute best career path.


I ended up going the construction management route. I actually deal with submittals and RFI for projects now

I have a question.

When you are designing a building and there is ornamentation on the outside, like statues or ornamental moldings and fancy stuff like in old gothic structures, do you have to draw each statue or just a general outline and let the artists decide?

Why not start learning the finance and law side of it too? In the industry I was in, most of budget went into renting out space. I mean if I knew how to build, zone, and finance, I'd make a killing.
