Especially people that get liberal arts degrees

I would rather they have common sense college where if you pass then you actually have common sense and are a functional adult.

There are plenty of smart people who never set foot in college because they had to work for a living. Some of the people in college had rich parents and they didn’t have to work, and they think that makes them smarter.
Exercise will get you through times of ill health better than no exercise will get you through times of good health.

Because they aren't smart to begin with (gaining knowledge does not suddenly make someone smart), and they don't want to admit that they are below average intelligence and wasted their time and money.

Obviously this is for african underwater basket weaving degrees, not actual STEM or RX students.

There's a perceived value, because of the cost. But as we all know it's mostly an indoctrination tool that suckers pay for getting a degree that gives you little skill and worthless knowledge just to receive a credential.

I mean who goes to college without checking your salary and job prospects before choosing a degree...a lot more people than you think.

I'm still happy I chose to return in my late 20s, because it did accelerate my career, but I also chose my major wisely, and I had a lot more life experience by then to not be fooled by the liberal leaning professors.
