9 weeks sober today

Das it mane!

Any of you Miscers looking to lower your alcohol consumption or give it up completely, would highly recommend going sober even if it's only temporary

Brb not feeling like chit the day or multiple days after
Brb feeling well rested and can be productive over the weekend
Brb normal people don't give a chit if you are not drinking
Brb if anyone does give a chit just say you are the designated driver or say "cool brah" and disregard their dumb opinion
Brb allows you to work on your social skills with strangers without the crutch of alcohol
Brb saving a chit ton of money every month or at the very least spending it on other things which are hopefully more beneficial
Brb numerous health benefits and giving your body a break from the damage

For the minority of lifters still remaining on the misc, big increases in recovery and motivation were another benefit

Congrats. Trying to cut back myself. I only drink socially now. Got into a little run of drinking at my house alone, das not it.

Always good to go full sober, though. Maybe I'll join ya soon.

Wish you all the best brah, if you can maintain a healthy relationship with alcohol through moderation then do it!

For me I couldn't see myself sticking to it, especially in social situations where 1 drink can become 2 drinks etc. and before I know it I've come full circle again and I'm getting chit faced with the boys

Try to limit myself to 5 drinks, max, at social outings. Stick to those new seltzer beers to cut the calories down a bit. Maybe that's too much, even.

Mirin hard bro srs

I am 9 days sober rn. Doesn’t seem like a long time but for the past 9ish years I’d be getting absolutely hammered nearly every single weekend Friday & Saturday with only a few times going sober.

I’m just mentally at the point where I have a vision of what I want my life to look like and I can clearly see alcohol is the biggest roadblock to it all. Wastes money, has gotten me in major trouble, ruined relationships, feel like chit, messes with me mentally, and no doubt has affected my health.

Excited to see where it goes, it feels so different this time. thanks for this thread.

I've gone 6 or 7 weeks without it before a few times.

Every time, towards the end, same results:

- Better sleep, better mornings
- Saved some money
- Leaner (less empty/alcohol Calories, less munchies)
- Feeling of superiority over others
- Feeling confirmed that I've got discipline and control

Then I get bored.

Good luck brah, I'm rooting for you

The part where you mentioned the mental effects is what spurred me to make the change the most. The intense anxiety that would creep up and linger for 2 or 3 days after drinking was horrible, even if I could recall 99% of what happened the previous night and had nothing to worry about. My brain would tell me I'd fuked up, all my friends hated me, what was the point of existing etc. real existential dread chit at times. I coped with this for the last 6 months or so most weekends until enough was enough. Feels 100x better waking up with a clear mind and having a good nights sleep.

The best description I heard which really spoke to me and the anxiety I was experiencing was "Drinking alcohol just borrows happiness from tomorrow, with interest."

Das it mane, keep at it, I'm proud of you!

If any brahs need to reach out privately via PMs they're always open. I'm not so active on the Misc anymore, but I'll try and respond whenever I can.
