Why does India refuse to embrace modern plumbing?

Modern plumbing has had the potential to be wildly available for access to all for like a hundred years now.

Why hasn't India gotten on board, yet? Why do they insist on remaining as stuck to the past as their fecal matter remains stuck to everything?

Probably lack of water resources. There's only so much water that can be provided for 1.4 billion people.

I'm not sure they'd accept it even if we offered to send full funding complete with tradies to get a proper mass plumbing network set up for them, srs.

India's oppressive socialist government had caused massive economic recession. A very large portion of the transactions are considered "black market" as a result. In the 80s or 90s, the government looked to Milton Friedman to help them deregulate, and as a result, India began moving forward again with some economic growth. Unfortunately, India's government is very corrupt, and the government was back to its old ways, implementing regulations and laws to slow growth back to a crawl.

I'm not sure how the water availability plays a role, but if the economy just isn't there, there is no way to access as many natural resources. Think about it; freedom/profit gives people incentives to excavate, start businesses, build, etc, and if there is no incentives, no one will do it. Socialism only works if the people are making profits to pay taxes, and when the government takes everything or costs too much in regulations, no one will do anything. This means, the economy will never grow. If everything is black market, there are no taxpayers or willingness to be productive for someone else.

Because they're a nation full of incompetents. It is wild how much basic common sense and life skills they all lack. No matter what I am doing, no matter how simple, be it ordering a coffee, or calling a customer service line, I always lay things out super clear and slowly for them in an effort to preemptively address their incompetence. Yet they still are useless and invariable mess up even the most simple tasks. I've never seen a nation with more incompetence and learned helplessness. Especially the women for the latter. And somehow they have conned Western governments into thinking they will be contributors if let in as immigrants.

India’s economy relies heavily on Textile and tech support. If you look at a lot of clothing brands, you will find the textiles are made in India, but assembled in the US, UK, Indonesia etc. A lot of them have looms in their homes where the women have small textile businesses, while the men work in tech. A lot of the “richer” individuals own small farms, but the difference in income isn’t huge.

Honestly I think they should build several large public restroom places with that is all conveniently connected to a water treatment place.

It seems like they don't want to invest into a full blown sewer system and that's understandable since its alot of work.

With all of that labor power, they should have some of the worlds best sewer systems in place.

What I find funny are the miscers saying it's too hard to develope a plumbing system for 1.4 billion people. Well, that's 1.4 billion people to figure it out, isn't it? And not even half of their housing facilities have plumbing.

That's 3rd world chithole status in 2023. In fact, it was 3rd world chithole status back in 1993, too.

I would say they are at least 150 yrs behind the rest of the world also Mexico and a lot of South American countries are the same. They just don’t have the money to have proper plumbing unfortunately.

Their government is/was socialist, as the ruskies were the only ones willing to help them rebuild their economy after Britain left. They actually approached America first, but was rejected.

They have the worst and hardest type of system to run - democratic government with socialist command economy. Things take forever to be done. The easiest system is China's - Authoritarian government with capitalise economy. Can react extremely quickly without caring if the populace agrees or not.

Exact same issue as Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh didn't care that the help was capitalist or communist - just that Vietnam could be free. Approached USA, got rejected, then the ruskies accepted them with open arms.

China isn't as authoritarian as you think. The people holds alot of power. The reason why the Gov seems authoritarian, its because the people trust their government's decisions and go with it.

They're Indians. The exact same reason why the British refuse to develop dentistry, both countries take it as a seal of pride.

That's a whole other conversation on its own.

China's authoritarian system does rely on the trust of the majority, but the individual has little say, and you cannot deny that XJP and his circle has a lot of authority.

The other thing is trust. Chinese history has always shown Chinese people will 100% revolt if the government does a bad job economically, regardless of dynasty or system. That's why they're so anxious about economy growth at all costs. The last 2 decades has westerners constantly saying it'll collapse when it has done the opposite. The concerning thing is few are saying this now, and their economy looks to be in its most dangerous situation with real estate bust and youth unemployment.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don't have specific information about India's stance on embracing modern plumbing. However, I can provide some general insights into factors that might influence the adoption of modern plumbing practices in certain regions, including India.

Infrastructure Challenges:
India, like many other countries, may face challenges in developing and maintaining modern infrastructure, including plumbing systems. Rural areas, in particular, may lack the necessary resources and infrastructure for widespread adoption of modern plumbing technologies.

Cultural and Traditional Practices:
Cultural and traditional practices can play a significant role in shaping attitudes towards technology and modernization. In some cases, people may prefer traditional methods or may be hesitant to adopt new technologies due to cultural reasons or lack of awareness about the benefits.

Economic Factors:
The economic status of a region or a community can impact its ability to invest in modern plumbing infrastructure. High costs associated with installing and maintaining modern plumbing systems might be a barrier to adoption, especially in areas with limited financial resources.

I don't know, but recall a number of years India's leader making a speech about the importance of using bathrooms in order to promote a healthy environment. Plumbing in the west did contribute greatly to improving people's health. In the past they used to have big piles of poop in New York and elsewhere that would contribute to disease.

I can recall too reading a story about an Indian lady who was of the lowest caste She was to clean bathrooms. It was the only job she could get and in India the article said. She was to clean the very unsanitary bathrooms but also was not allowed to use the bathroom due to her low caste birth. Where she used the bathroom I don't remember but presumably outside.

Not India but recall watching a show on camping in Mexico and other counties in central America. The American camper adventurer would complain about many camping areas being full of human poop in Mexico and other central American countries. Reminded me of stories about San Fransisco and other blue cities and the lack of using toilets.

I read somewhere that among many villages in India where there are virtually no toilets or plumbing, people (especially women) prefer to poop together because it allows them to socialize and gossip with each other and also as a form of protection. It's not unusual for women especially to be sexually assaulted while trying to go to the bathroom.
