We’re talking an preset appointment time. Not emergency room visits or operations.

Personally while it depends on what I’m seeing them for and if it’s the doc, or physician assistant or nurse practitioner. I generally won’t wait more than an hour after my appointment time unless I’m assured I’m “next”.

Honestly, their lack of respect for the patient’s time disgusts me. One thing if they were operating in the morning and running late. But I’ve had appointments with general practitioners at 8am, and these phuks roll in at 9am.

Left wife’s doc apt today after waiting 45 mins to see the nurse practitioner, front desk said 3 people were ahead of us, but they didn’t take anyone back the entire 45mins. Knew it would be at best another 45 mins.



The last straw that gave me this attitude came about 20 years ago.

My GP just moved to a different state, but I stayed with the same practice, they were always good and close to on time, just had a different doc.
Diss new biotch had me sitting for 2+ hrs, and was taking people that was walking in 2 hrs after I was waiting. I was asked the front desk a few times what was up, they gave me a run around. I’m guessing she went on lunch while I was there. Anyway. The doc eventually comes out, and starts yelling at me, like I wasn’t a 30 yr old that’s been waiting over 2 hrs for my appointment. It sets me off, I yell back, call her a handful of colorful adjectives and she slams the door and walks back.

Front desk ladies are shook, I don’t want to take it out on them, but they’re guilty by association at this point in my book. Give them a wraith of chit. Tell them I want my records. They try saying that there is a fee for my records. Wrong answer, now I don’t feel the least bit bad, because I know by law, those records are my property, not theirs, and they can’t charge me. Office manager comes out. Says they’ll have my records by end of day. No charge. (No chit)

I go home, tell wife what happens, she is furious. She gets in her car, goes there, tells them give up both our records now. Doc comes out to see what’s the commotion about, wife yells at her, calling her a man hater and various other things. Doc is looking like her life is crumbling. Wife gets our records and comes right back.

Another time, wife was at dentist, he was 90 mins late for appointment, wife got up to see what’s going on, they were having an office party. We both left that practice as well.

I don't wait anymore. I just recently changed doc's because my last one was constantly late. His first appointment was at 6:30am (which I'd always take) and often times I wouldn't see him until 8ish.

I asked around who people would recommend and one particular Dr was mentioned a few times. Called up his office and switched over. He's always on time an haven't been happier.

Nobody cares *******. Their time is more valuable than yours

Always call ahead of time to see if they're running on schedule. I don't wait for anyone.

Das it man. My GP now runs at most 15-20 mins late. But he spends 20-30 mins with me. I never had a doc go over every last detail like this one. Usually GPs give 5 mins and bounce.

Depends on the doc and how bad I need their service. I have graves disease and managed to get in with the best endo doc in the city. If she was late, I'd wait because she literally was the best.

My dentist office is legit really professional so I've never had to wait there more than maybe a half hour and that's only happened a couple times in 15 years. They always explain why like the last patients crown wasn't fitting well so they needed extra time to get it just right, etc.

Just a GP, I'd switch if they acted like that. No problem. There's a thousand doctors offices I can go to.

Generally speaking, I'll wait as long as it takes to see a doctor who is running late. Making doctor appointments and getting to them is such a pain in the assss that skipping due to them running late just creates way more problems than waiting it out and going. Making it work around work schedules and other conflicts, waiting however long to be seen, taking the time to go in the first place, etc. I'd only bail early if their lateness was about to cause me to be late to something else that would result in even worse consequences.

Fortunately, I haven't had nearly the issues with wait times at doctors offices as it seemed like I did 10 - 15 years ago. Not sure what happened, but that stuff seems to have gotten way better in more recent times.
This sounds like total bs. If I tried calling my doctor's office to ask if they were running on schedule ahead of time, they'd probably think I was insane and seem annoyed at me for wasting their time with the call. They'd also charge like a $100 missed appointment fee if I said it doesn't sound good anymore based on what they said and cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

I'd be shocked if they ever answer that question seriously. They'd usually just say everything things are fine, then if it wasn't when you got there, what are you gonna do about it? Leave early, potentially pay a missed apt fee, and go through the hassle of rescheduling and going?

Patients have issues and I try to address them. If it’s a specific problem and a routine follow up, takes 5 mins. But often there are complex social issues at hand and I try to be as helpful as I can be. I usually apologize to the patients that follow for being late and thank them for waiting for me. Most are understanding, occasionally someone throws a fit, and I remind them that I treat patients like I would want my family to be treated, that usually calms them down.

I never wait cause I know my doctor is running late so I always call in advance to find out how late he is running.

BUT - I put up with that because I know the reason he is running late is because he will not leave the room if I have unanswered questions or need something - once we were there pretty late in the day and the nurses were off and he was having trouble with the printer but I needed my scripts printed (at the time I was getting a script for a controlled substance and it needed to be on paper from the office, not faxed) and he spent twenty minutes to get it to work so I could take it with me while other people waited

After 5 minutes I just walk in the back and track the doctor down myself and when they try to tell me they are busy I tell them "yeah your going to be busy with me because youre on my time now chief"

It's not bs and people have been doing it forever. Who the fuk has the time to sit in a doctor's office for hours because they've overbooked patients and constantly run late?! I don't have that kind of time. They're the one's who are annoying...not my 2 second phone call to check.

What poverty assss clinics are you all going to where the service is so awful with the horrible wait times being so constant? Do you live in Canada or something?

one time I had an appointment at some specialist and was there on time waited a half an hour past my appt time.

I said I've waited a while and the receptionist took me inside and put me in a smaller waiting room. I waited for about 20 minutes and basically flagged down a nurse who was walking by with whats the deal?

then I was told to go to the appt exam room and sat about 5 minutes before I told the nurse I can't wait any longer. She then went and talked to the FEMALE doctor and came back and told me to wait, wait just a few more minutes ...its really important that the doctor see you!!!

I figured out why they wanted me to stay so bad. AS LONG AS the doctor sees you with her eyes (be it for an hour or one minute) she can bill it to insurance that she "saw" you. I think I waited like 2 more minutes and then I left....never even met the doctor.

What are you talking about? Doctors (even the best ones,) take on way too many patients and constantly overbook. This isn't anything new...it's been going on for years lol...

It's not even just that, like I said above, I know my doc runs late that's why I call ahead, but I also know he runs late because he is talking to his patients and I know that from my own experiences with him, he will not leave the room until every question I have is answered. And that's why I am ok with him running late, I just try to make my appointments first thing in the morning.

I don't know what to tell you. I haven't had a doctor or even densit be more than maybe 5 - 10 minutes late for an appointment absolute tops in like 10+ years. I figured places were finally starting to get their chit together, but maybe I'm just really lucky with the places I go to?
