Why would you even care about retirement

I mean, boomers had it easy. Now it's almost a given you'll be working well into your 70's.

A state funded pension will be pushed back further and further. Denmark will have their pension age at73in 2050. Take that for what you will.

Either you get your own pension, or you work til you die.

As much as I hate work, you make a lot of sense op. I think there's a way around all of this mess though.

You need to be as low debt as possible. Cheap paid off house in bumfuk and a used toyota. That's the only surefire way you'll retire

That's it. Planning on selling my house at 55 and then just go live in a cheap country, compounded with my state pension in 15 years.

The idea of working a lot now to be able to MAYBE enjoy a small part of your life in your later years, when you have mental and physical decline, is literal insanity.

We all just need to stop participating in this elaborate rouse where we give a few people the opportunity to enjoy their full lives at our expense.

I worked a job where we'd do 40 hours across 4 days and have 3 day weekends. It was honestly great. You rally a bit more and then get to sit around for 3 days. 1 day less of travel, traffic, wasting gas, etc.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*

Didn't they already try raising the retirement age to like 68 or some chit? They just keep raising it to make it impossible to collect much on that social security money you spent 30 - 40 years paying into.

Banking on pension programs for retirement is never a wise idea unless it's at least for a gov job that is a bit more insulated from total failure than one company struggling.

The issue isn't that people work too much, it's that they save too little. Even very smart and wealthy people are absolutely stupid when it comes to wealth preservation. Most dual income couples could easily retire by 40-45 if they were smart with their spending habits but they aren't

I will be too. I'm sure a time will come where I won't want to work as much, and that's the time when I can pull back on my hours. Maybe just teach a class or two a semester. And spend the rest of the day lifting weights and hanging out with my wife.

But unless I'm incapacitated, I can't imagine ever being in a position where I wanted to "retire" and sit around tinkering with chit in the backyard (or fishing all the time) like lots of retired men.

But maybe as I get into my 60's/70's, my mindset on that will change.

Regardless, my wife and I both save a substantial portion of our incomes into 401k's, and I also have a state pension. So, we'll have options when the time comes.

It sounds like a nice plan to not eliminate things entirely but just re-balance. Good approach. I'd probably do the same thing.

What's that going to look like on your end if you don't mind my asking? Interested to hear about your own personal investment protocol and what your cashing in on that will look like come retirement.

It's the ultimate short-term vs long-term thing. You sacrifice short-term and it pays you back (literally) dividends in the future.
