McDonald's menu from 2007 (suifuel)
According to official government inflation numbers, inflation has gone up 48% since 2007. Looking at these numbers, it's closer to 100%.

Back in the college adys, we were taught how McDonald's prices are an important indicator of economic situation of a country...or even globally...so that explains that...restaurants prices are highly effected by inflation because then we are also adding in the operating costs, bills, staff salaries and maintenance/repair...so yeah that's there...

To be honest, if you use the app those prices haven’t gone up too much. Def not as much as you’d expect.
As with most things nowadays, they have dynamic pricing based on people’s tastes or income. “Premium” items ending up being like 3x what they were in 2009, but the regular items while using the app are only slightly higher.

in b4 misc economists come in and try to explain why this isn't a true reflection of actual inflation.... When it is literally the most complete representation of inflation that you can possibly have.

I understand now that when people on the misc use the word “inflation”, they are actually talking about cooperate greed.

People need to stop believing this myth that CPI is a measure of inflation. It doesn’t measure prices (despite the name). It measures prices, but then “undoes” it by adjusting the weights. If the price of steak goes up and people buy less steak, the CPI doesn’t see a change. It measures what people spend. Americans tend to spend about 95% of their income, so CPI is just an alternative way of tracking income.

The big mac index is a real thing.
From this comparison, you can see that while annual Big Mac Index (BMI) inflation through December 2021 and since 1996 has been 3.54%, the CPI has only reported 2.31% inflation. This suggests that the amount of under reported inflation since 1996 has been about 1.23% per year.
This should come as no surprise. You will recall that The Boskin Commission who added quality adjustments to the CPI intended to decrease the CPI by 1.1%.
However, you can see how their adjustments have hidden the true loss of purchasing power experienced by holders of U.S. dollars. Twenty seven and a half years of under reporting inflation has had a toll.
