Why do conservatives care SO much about abortion and weed? Srs.

Blows my mind witnessing the GOP continue to self-sabotage itself over these two useless issues.

Abortion - Ikind ofget where they're coming from. They think they are being moral to try passing extreme bans on abortion by "saving the lives of babies". However, that all falls apart when you consider how most Republicans are extremely against helping people after birth. "Pull yourself up by the bootstraps" if you've been born, but they'll completely destroy any possible momentum they could get by obsessing over abortion.

Weed - This issue is just laughable at this point. Blows my mind seeing red counties of states consistently energize liberal voters by banning weed in select counties in legal states. Republicans tend to way downplay the negative effects that carry on from those more localized issues into wider state/national politics. It's weed, if you still thinK THC is a big deal in 2023, you are incredibly naive and sheltered, no other way to put it.

I think it comes from the religious right. I understand it, especially with abortion. The libertarian conservative thinks it's probably immoral but not something governments should regulate because it opens another can of worms.

And I think it's stupid to keep weed illegal, imagine thinking a guy with a gun needs to throw you into a cage for smoking a plant. I don't smoke pot but People have free will and prohibition doesn't work and has never worked.

I've volunteered at some group home for adults with Downs - most end up with a sibling or other relative. Quite a few die young, their average life expectancy is only 60.

Many conservatives view it as literally murdering babies and feel it is their moral obligation to protect the innocent. Conservatives donate to charities at a much higher rate than liberals. The "conservatives against helping babies after birth" is a leftist talking point manufactured when conservatives try to limit state sponsored welfare programs.

As for weed. Not sure. I support the legalization of it, but can't say I like how it has impacted Washington.

I've been introduced to strangers in the past as "slightly to the right of Genghis Khan," and I don't particularly care about either issue when it comes time to cast a vote. I have no problem with weed being legalized. As for abortion, I'm a pragmatist. In an ideal world, it wouldn't exist, but in the real world it keeps the dependent underclass population from exploding and destroying Western civilization even faster.
