UNpopular Opinion: Michael Jackson was OVERRATED

He had a couple moves like moonwalking. But overall he is mid as hell.

I'd rather have Taylor Swift stick her arse in my face

She has no.ass

I don't like most of MJ's songs because they aren't my style but he was probably the greatest entertainer in pop history and a great singer.

You can't even compare Taylor Swift to Michael Jackson. No one will ever be like Michael again.

You're entitled to your opinion but Michael Jackson's songs stood the test of time. Can still listen to them every now and then which isn't something I can say for many other artists.

That said, Taylor Swift songs do tend to be catchy: we are never, ever, ever...are we out of the woods, are we out of the woods...I knew you were trouble trouble trouble.

I can’t name a Taylor Swift song and I saw her in concert. Although now I assume the lyrics you typed mean that the song is named Trouble.

I can name at least 10 Michael Jackson songs off the top of my head.

Thriller was a masterpiece.

MJ was quite versatile in dancing. You probably just watched videos of his 90's concerts where if you judge by that, he might seem a bit ''overrated''.
His moves are not as fluid as they used to be in the 70's and 80's. After BAD his style went on a downslide.

His songs are all great IMO. A bad MJ song is still better than top10 stuff on the radio.

Michael Jackson was fukin’ brilliant.

Thriller is just… wonderful. Like, I dunno where to begin with praising it. The fact he made a kick ass song that was themed around ghouls and scares n’ chit is truly remarkable, especially when we live in an era where every fukin’ song is based around one of 4 or 5 themes repeated ad-nauseum.

The dude put out so many other bangers too.

Definitely not overrated.

I'm gonna play Devil's advocate, here.

Aren't you like 60? And you wonder why you can name more Michael Jackson songs than Taylor Swift songs? Though I am quite a bit younger, I'm the same way, idk chit about Swift other than that her music is annoying as hell, and very clearly targetted speficially towards young females. Any man who professes to genuinely like Taylor Swift's music is a pussy, srs.

I’m 52 so yes, she’s from a different generation, but there was a thread on here where Miscers couldn’t name one of her songs, and I assume the average Miscer is around 30.

I get your point about men.

I don’t even like pop music. I like rock and alternative but Michael was classic.

My daughter is 18 and doesn’t like Taylor Swift. If her music is geared towards younger females, then who is paying thousands of dollars a ticket to see her?

Michael jackson sure was super commercially successful but he gets nearly all the credit for his producers, song writers and musicians since hes the face of his brand.

I mean even the fuking jackson 5 didnt write all their music or play all the parts on the damn records and their music was pretty simplistic. It was catchy sure but they didnt even write it.

Prince was basically the superstar, the producer, the band, the composer all in one. If youre talking musical talent its not even close.

Tons of great songs its just as a pop star he gets full credit for the machine behind him. You look at any rock band be it the beatles, led zeplin, metalica ect the band in its entirety is pretty well known and the credit is shared among them for the success. I mean only even a small fraction of people give quincey jones credit and the rest of the unknowns behind the michael jackson machine dont get any. So he gets overrated for his actual role in making these hits. He didnt even fuking write most of them.

He had some great hits, but I can agree that he is overrated. I think he was huge more so because of shock value more than anything, back then people never saw or heard of such a thing. It was new and exciting. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

His voice was mid.

But he comes from a family of entertainers which is why he got so big.

Never really understood people who can be so into a singer, its some top tier level NPC behavior.

I liked the Jackson 5 music way better then the later stuff. Still listen to it and rarely if ever listen to just michael jackson music.

I'll agree there is likely some truth to this.

But broadly speaking, he is not overrated. He put out hit after hit and was a sensational creative musician and entertainer.
