I was a huge RTS fan back in the day and as a kid .... Used to play Red Alert, C&C, AOE, AOM etc all the time. However, now that I'm older and at this age ... I just can't enjoy them anymore for some reason. I tried playing AOE4 but I dunno, I just got bored and impatient with the game. I recently bought AOM on the steam sale to try relive my nostalgia again, but meh .... Kinda wanting to refund it.

Same thing with City/park builders ... I loved games like Pharoah, Sim City, sim theme park and played them religiously as a kid ... I bought Planet zoo a while ago, but I just can't with this genre anymore. Even tried the recently released Steamworld build off gamepass and even though I absolutely loved the aesthetic etc ... I just don't feel as interested anymore.

Fighting games .... Used to love street fighter, tekken, mk ....... but nahhh, boring as fuk now.

Racing games. Played a lot of Need for Speed, Burnout and Wipeout when I was younger. Can't get into racing games anymore.

I bought the latest Wipeout and I'm trying to force myself to beat it.

Oh yeah same ..... I loved gran turismo on the ps1 and nfs underground 1 and 2 were my jam back in the day.



Nowaday's I'd rather do a jay and suck some dick than play a racing game.

Turn based strategy and JRPG's seem to be at the top of that list. At one point in time I was really into games like Tactics Orge and big JRPG's, but I just can't get into games like that anymore. I guess they are very similar when it comes down to it, turn based in their own way, heavy emphasis on following a storyline with a cast of characters. I guess I just found that sort of material a lot more appealing when I was younger. Now a days it sort of feels like the fairy tales of the gaming world, games designed around basic stories and characters that are a lot more immersive and hit a lot harder when you're a kid. Now a days so many of the JRPG's and characters from them that I used to think were badass or deep now seem cheesy or cliched.

Then I'd say it's anything really focused around competitive multiplayer, especially 2D fighters and competitive FPS. I still enjoy a lot of 3D fighters but sadly there doesn't seem to be as much of a focus on them as there used to be, and so many of the new 2D fighters are just way too focused around the online scene, there just isn't much drawing me in whenever I try to get into them these days. I have honestly given up on them for the most part by now, I even passed on the latest Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter just because I hardly played the last entries before them. As for competitive FPS it's just way too sweaty for me these days, I enjoyed it a lot more when there was more of a relaxed and social scene to it, that and I think I was simply a lot better at them when I was a teenager and in my 20's. Now it's like I just don't want to deal with all the sweatlords, so I stick to solo FPS or just play bots from time to time.

Finally I'd probably say hardcore action games in general, just all those 3'rd person action games centered around fast paced/demanding "hardcore" gameplay. It's just not a style of gaming that I really enjoy anymore. I guess to top it off I'd have to mention the cinematic and "walking simulator" type of games. They were interesting at first, but the more I played them the less I could stay interested.

Yeah, same. I loved playing Gran Turismo & Test Drive and wouldn't touch those games now. Was never interested in JRPGs until recently and enjoy them a lot. Still love my 2D fighting games tho

For people saying ''racing games'', It is because NFS sucks now with their ''break to drift'' mechanic and old Gran Turismos had great progression and more charm. GT7 is great but the progression is awful

Assassins Creed. Used to LOVE the series. Played the first one in 2007, then AC2, 3, revelations, brotherhood, black flag, unity, Syndicate, and Origins. after Odyssey came out, I started losing interest in the series.

Nintendo games

JRPGs feels like the same game over and over again.

Starting to get to the point where big open world epic games are turning into skips for me due to the time it takes to beat them. I really enjoy them but just can't get to finishing them. Usually only play for 1-2 hour blocks and some of these games are so narrative or exploration heavy that it's just not worth it to play for short bursts as there is no feeling of accomplishment.

Some JRPGs/Tactics games are getting to that point as well. I really enjoyed DragonQuest11 but there was no need for it to be 100+ hours. Same with Persona 5 and the Tactics Ogre remake.

I'm more in the Triangle Strategy/Sea of Stars timeframes now where the game is 30 hours long. I've also largely given up on trying to get platinums (or whatever the Xbox equivalent is) as the time spent just searching for collectibles isn't worth it.

Surprised you were able to play Origins. Egypt is beautiful, Ubisoft never drops the ball when it comes to the setting. However, I found it too different compared to past Assassin's Creed for me to get into. At this point, another Studio needs to get their hands on Assassin's Creed imo.

To be fair, over the long term view of things, I still dabble in them. But I haven't played any since earlier this year (RS3), and even then I was fairly casual with playing compared to other MMOs. Before that it was WOTLK Classic. Before that it was OSRS and Vanilla WoW. With a little TESO thrown into the mix.

I'm done playing nostalgia MMOs. But I do still watch content of it on YouTube/Twitch.

I need something new out. Ashes of Creation? Chrono Odyssey? Throne and Liberty? Soulframe? IDK. Some of these games I've heard about since before 2020, srs. Most of them have aspects that make me hesitate to get on the hype train for them. I'd be interested in POE2 or a Destiny 3 when they come out eventually.

Right now though I'd rather play CoD MW3, or Baldur's Gate 3. The next game I'm anticipating is either Diablo 4 season 3 in late January, or Dragon's Dogma 2 in March.

Turn based RPGs. Grew up playing FO 1/2 and all the other Black Isle games. Today I just don't seem to have the patience for them anymore. Got too many real life things to do anymore.

Arena style isn't really in fashion anymore anyway though.
For me its football (as in using your foot to kick a ball, jfl @ 'soccer') games, same chit every year

MMORPGs, as a teen and young adult I could play those games grinding mobs to level up etc.. I would always look for the next "big thing" that was outside of WoW and try it out.. as I got older with more responsibilities I just can't do it the same. I mean I could play it, but I would fall severely behind anyone I would play with cause of time restrictions making it not as fun considering I would be low level noob.

So my go to ended up being BR games where time isn't a factor, which is why i hate COD weapon leveling system, and appreciate games like apex where you aren't grinding for weapon attachments.

Always thought racing games were only fun when you played against a live opponent . Beetle but as entire racing for N64 is exception

Specifically Final Fantasy.

Too time consuming for a husband and father.

Platform games- I still want to play them but it's so rare that a new one comes out aside from Ratchet & Clank a few yeas ago. I loved the Banjo games on N64, Conker's, and even the Spongebob tie-in games on the PS2.

Fighting games- I loved playing those IRL with my bros and punching the chit out of them when I lost. They're not fun online & I think all my favorite series from the past have lost their way. MK is a great example. I couldn't get into all the new ones post-PS2. I have the latest one downloaded and still cbf to play it. I'm hoping it's better than I think it's gonna be.

I also don't fuk with FPS games at all anymore, but I never loved them aside from Halo. I got so burnt out on COD, they give me motion sickness, I only liked playing them with my friends IRL, & nothing really touched the OG Halo trilogy for me.

Thing with Planet Zoo is that it's too much. I have it plus some DLC and I probably haven't played it for more than a few hours. Too much micromanagement for a genre that I'd rather throw on and just get lost in a for a bit. Jurassic World Evo 2 is my current go-to for park management.

But to answer the OP, the biggest genre for me right now is anything turn based. I think about firing up a game of Civ and think of the time it takes to complete one match and nope out right away. Especially on higher difficulty/larger maps.

fighting games, racing games, open world games, to be honest FPS as well, the only FPS I really got into was Halo and Halo's been dead since Halo 4 launched. Games in general are in the sh!tter. AC6 was pretty cool though. The best current games are remasters.
