Pre COVID officel horror stories
Listening to some of my team members telling me about the pre COVID wage slave days I’d really funny cause I only started office work in 2020. Before that I was in university while working a part time tradiecel gig.
Some of the highlights I’ve heard:
-staying in office until midnight to fix deployment issues
-staying in office overnight and bringing in toothbrush/toothpaste to brush teeth in bathroom and sleeping on a couch in break rooms.
-having to book last minute expensive hotels near the office (which company didn’t pay for) so they can easily come back to office the next day after missing the last train home.
-tons of $$$ spent on taxis home when missing trains
-coming in Saturdays and Sundays when necessary to get takes complete
-back then people used to actually steal peoples lunches like in movies
-executives were working from home specially on Mondays (probably cause of hangovers) while everyone had to be in office
-one guy was so tired after work driving he almost crashed and killed himself as he dozed off driving after overtime everyday for weeks.
-have to come in when kinda getting sick to work without having option to WFH.

Stories come from colleagues that have worked at the same company for years, other big finance companies, major banks as well as other sectors.
