Can't really go wrong with a Toyota or a Honda. I'd be choosing either one of those, leaning more towards the toyota

4runner or crv since they’re 4wd and the most reliable, but check for excessive rust, especially on the 4runner since those years are prone to it

Also those year 4runners can have bad head gasket issues, if it runs rough on cold start tours over srs

The GMC is right at about engine blowup range. Stay away from that. Go with the Toyota or Acura.

Acura or Honda would be the best bets overall. Absolutely avoid the GMC.

Well Acura is a subsidiary of Honda so the reliability of the drivetrain would probably be close. That being said the Acura's ad is misleading, if you weren't aware it does not have a 4 cylinder engine. It has the Honda V6 so it may get slightly worse fuel economy than the CRV. Another downside is that the V6 also uses a timing belt. If you arent sure when the last time its been replaced you could be driving around a potential time bomb because if the belt breaks the engine is finished. The other option could be to have the belt inspected and if it needs replaced I would guess its going to be a min. of 1K and costs go up if you want to have the water pump replaced (you should).

I got my mom an 04 Acura CL type S a few years ago with that engine and its given her no problems, I did replace pretty much the entire timing set when I bought it and glad I did because the belt was worn pretty bad.

Whichever one has the best body on it in relation to age of the car, and miles as a secondary priority to consider. For real, that's a good indicator of how well the vehcile is cared for in general.

Thank you, bro. The guy said it would take 2 hrs / $170 to check out the timing belt just to get into it, and $850 to replace that and the water pump.

You think it's worth going forward on this quote ($4700 for the car) with everything else in good condition, and should I be looking for anything similar with the CRV?

Good news is that the timing belt and water pump were replaced at 80k. Bad news is that the transmission was rebuilt at 104k. Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing. How would you look at that?

Will get the CRV Carfax and PPI today. And if any issues, will do the same for the MDX, and then decide

Crv would be the better buy imo. MDX will likely have more BS items fail, and crv is a more simple design/ better on gas.

Go with the CRV if it checks out.....change the oil regularly and you'll be good to go.

CRV was crap. Rolled odometer and terrible condition. MDX was in surprisingly very clean condition. Needed tires, an oil change, a stabilizer, and a battery.

Seeing a 2006 TSX with 270k miles for $2.7k tomorrow. I don't want to get the MDX bc of future repairs. If I can get this TSX to 2k, might just send it for a beater
