Ohtani is going across the street to the LA Dodgers. $700M, 10 years.

And he's super injured lol. There are small countries with lower GDP's. A dying game that struggles to stay relevant.

$700M. That's more than the highest earnings onlyfans sloot (but actually not by that much).

Fuarrrrrrk look at that hairline

I honestly don't know how NFL and MLB teams can afford to pay these type of salaries.

I know NFL is in a bif push to go global, so they see the big salaries as something that will generate additional interest worldwide, but still there's no way these teams are turning a huge profit with these numbers.

Gotta look at it like you're getting a Cy Young Ace and MVP cleanup hitter. 35 mil for each really isn't bad. Although he's not pitching next year. Obviously insane risk for a deal that long/big. He'll be making more next year than a few entire team payrolls. MLB is a stupid setup.

They are. The MLB, NFL, and NBA are making billions yearly. Players deserve their cut, even if the money looks ridiculous. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

I listened to a podcast yesterday with a former baseball gm. He said even at $700m, he's still huge net positive value. They will get $700M cash back on merchandise and appearances alone.

1. He's Japanese and japanese people have crazy celebrity worship culture

2. He's still in his prime

3. His gravity makes it way easier to fill out the roster around him and increase the value of the whole franchise.

Comparing a one year GDP to a 10 year contract... great math there misc.

Still crazy money though. I think that sports in general will have a decline over the next 10-15 years though. Covid hurt them a lot, people moved on. The politics pushed others away, and many young people don't play sports or watch anything but SM.

MLB just had a record good year. We know that even when conservatives say they will boycott pro sports, they still watch and attend games.

"That 9.1% increase in per-game attendance was the largest in 30 years, going all the way back to MLB's expansion to 28 teams in 1993 (again, not counting COVID-impacted seasons)."

As far as I know mlb has been making more money than ever..I haven't looked at the stats but I know the #'s they've parroted over the last few years show revenue increasing
Think TV watches too

BUT I did hear this years world series was the lowest viewed, but that is probably cause weird teams

Everything else I've heard is baseball continues to grow

Same reason contracts keep going up

He's not worth 70 mil a year, even evaluating the contract as a pitcher and hitter and then adding them together.

Not worth 35 mil as a hitter but probably close. Plus he's a DH so that devalues him a bit.

Certainly not worth 35 mil as a pitcher. And with 2 UCl reconstructions his elbow will never be the same.

But the Dodgers have a crazy regional TV deal so they can pay it.

Some Calicuck aware us on how much he’ll be paying out in taxes on that $700M?

I’m betting living in LA he gets to keep about $20M a year

Crazy thing is, Ohtani doesn't even care about money. You give him a dorm room next to the stadium and some food vouchers and he's content.
