Depends what you mean by kid. I don't think Adult Swim existed in the 90s when I was a "kid." I didn't watch anything that my parents didn't know about. I watched Looney Tunes, Batman TAS, Spiderman Animated Series, Gargoyles, X Men, Pokemon, Catdog, Hey Arnold, Dexter's Lab, Goof Troop, Ducktales, King of the Hill, Pinky and the Brain, Courage the Cowardly Dog. About the worst things I watched were Rocko's Modern Life and some of the Simpsons, and my mom was always around as that had some questionable material. Tbf that kind of went over my head as I had no idea Rocko was a phone sex operator until I watched some of those episodes over again in HS. Wasn't allowed to watch stuff like Cow and Chicken, Ren and Stimpy, et cetera.
I entered HS in 2002 and I was allowed to start watching more adult humor. South Park, Family Guy, American Dad (although that came out like my junior or senior year or something), and other non cartoon shows like Seinfeld and Friends that had strong sexual content. Now that I think about it I remember watching some of Seinfeld in middle school when my parents were watching but didn't really understand a lot of the adult jokes. Like the master of your domain thing went right over my head, as did the "below the equator" thing, and probably a lot of other stuff.
I was exposed to some stuff, but nothing really vulgar until HS, and anything questionable before then my parents were around to put it into proper context.
