Why does society look down on Railway workers?

Without them society would collapse

Nobody would be able to get to their jobs or travel

If a Doctor can't get to work are they not less important than a Railway worker?

I partially agree that the driver and mechanics are important but the conductor and the fella who sells tickets in the station, not so much lol
