I wish things worked out between me and my daughters mother ...
But she just wasn't willing to put the effort in.
It's been a decade.
And the thought is still there.

Ordinarily, I'd talk chit to you, OP, but the feels are real. You can only control yourself tho. Don't blame yourself.I mean blame yourself for your chitty politics, but don't blame yourself for this. Just do the best you can. No ragrets. Life throws you dicks sometimes, but it's how you take them that determines what a homo you are.

The reality is, if it didn't work out, it was 100% your fault. Either you fuked up by not leading and maintaining the relationship like you should have as the man, or you fuked up by choosing the wrong person to have a relationship and kids with.
Learn from your past mistakes so you won't repeat them in the future.

It sucks when things don’t work out with the other parent.
The worst is when the other parent badmouths you to the child and tries to turn the child against you. I’ve been fighting that one for years and it finally got better 2 years ago.
It’s awful then when you never find anyone better than your ex.

I don't get it either. Imagine hating your ex more than you love your child. I can't grasp that type of thinking.

You just have to have faith things work out for the best.
The only thing you have some control over in this life is yourself.
Maybe.

I am moved.
Sorry for your misfortunes.
I have an excellent life, all things considered. Whenever I find myself wishing things had worked out differently, or that I had done something differently, I remember that changing anything would change everything. There are aspects to my life right now that, if my past was different, I would never have, or even know to pursue. I wouldn't trade them to right any "wrong" or correct any "misfortune". Then I realize that there are so many mundane things in my life, like the french press I use, or my electric tooth brush, or the way the sun hits my apartment balcony before work in the morning. I have a fondness for all of those things too. And then I remember that of these things that I am fond of, I don't really know what I'd be getting in return. I don't actually know what my life would be like if things went differently. In feelings of regret or wishing we could change the past, we just assume that if that one thing worked, everything else magically would as well and everything would be perfect. That's probably what you're doing too. The truth is, you don't know if remaining with your ex for one more year would have resulted in all of you getting hit by a bus and killed. You don't know ****. All you know is that there are little things in your life that make your eyes smile and by regretting something, you are mentally giving up something real for something completely unknown. You don't know what your life would be like if things worked out. You don't know what other misfortune could have hit you later down that chain of events. All you can do is work on creating things in your life right now to act as these wards against these emotions. Create things right now that you would not trade for this illusory bargain and regret disappears.
