if you were handed a scrambled Rubik's cube, would you be able to solve it without help?

not even talking about times and speedcubing, simply solving one

Yes although I only know the standard algorithms and always use the same. Can’t really change to faster algorithms depending on color positions like the pros

I remember when they came out. Had more than one just never found it fun. Had a science teacher in 6th grade who always carried. A brief case to class with him and the onky thing in it was a rubix cube

They even came out with a sat morning cartoon called rubix cube. Or just plain rubix. Never watched it

cross at top > corners > 3rd row

1. get all corners to match

2. get all crosses in the middle to match

once you get either ..ez.

Yeah. There is a fixed way to consistently do it, and you can also learn shortcuts to manipulate the cube given certain positions. Mathematically, what is going on is more interesting. You are searching for low order elements in stabilizers that leave particularly convenient configurations fixed. Cubers call these "algorithms".

A lot have been found over the years, and once you memorize a lot of them, you can easily solve the cube quickly.

I solve it by throwing it against a wall, breaking it into little pieces which i then stamp on, as I would a geek's head.

Nope. My brother challenged me to solve one before him. So I just scanned it with my phone and had it calculate the moves to solve it.

Like anything else, it's a learned skill. But not one I am interested in learning.

Doing it without a guide is impressive. A person can be a genius or highly intelligent and still be an uneducated fuktard. The cube is quite difficult to solve without any guide.

Those who say it is simple, could you solve an arbitrary such cube? What about irregular shapes? Mathematically, it can be complicated, and while there are some specific things you can use to explore this and find the low order elements you need, it can get really ugly.
