Failed second semester of nursing school in a row. Might do something else.

Failed pharmacology in the first semester last fall but passed fundamentals. Had to retake pharmacology in the spring to get to the 2nd semester. Passed it and went on to semester 2 this fall. Started off with a great cushion on my first exam and got absolutely wrecked in units 2 and 3 and the final I failed by 3 problems making me fail by 2 points.

Legit frustrated and tired of this ****. Clinical rotations were a breeze but perhaps this isn't it. Worked hard for over 3 years to get to this point and the reality of repeating semester 2 in the spring depresses me. And that leaves me with two more semester before getting my ASN.
Curious about trade school bit I don't even know what trade to try. Honestly feeling hopeful but a bit lost this Christmas bros

Don't quit, find a tutor. Figure out how you learn best and use that method.

I learn best by talking over concepts and getting quizzed by other people. Find someone who is doing well in the class or a tutor and pay them to do this with you.

Lots of professors just hand you the book and make it your responsibility the extract the important info from it; this is not how most people learn.

How do you make the cut to get into nursing school and then not even be able to pass. Most schools are extremely competitive to get into.

Theres a huge inconsistency in the staff/professors that teach. One professor will be an effective communicator and tell you what will and won't be important to focus on and the other will just ramble for 3 hours and not be able to connect the dots leaving everyone to fend for themselves. One professor was absent one week during the most important chapters of unit 3 and the sub, although was a good teacher, didn't teach or relay information in a way that would have been helpful is said prof wasn't absent.
Professors will chose any questions they want and slap them on the exam no matter how irrelevant they can be.

I understood the material pretty good but some questions on the final were so fckd they threw many off. The biggest arguments and debates are that select all that apply questions do not give you partial credit even though the board exams to get your nursing license now give you partial credit for select all that apply questions. Nursing schools are now trying to follow the New Gen NCLEX testing standard but they're literally not even following it if they're not giving partial credit for select all that apply questions. If you do as much as pic one wrong answer or miss one right answer the entire problem is wrong

Time will pass regardless, stick to it and power thru it boyo. See what the other students who are passing with great grades are doing, I guarantee you it aint because they are naturally geniuses.

That just means you're not studying or putting as much effort necessary.


My girl is in an accelerated nursing school program and wanted to quit every semester because of difficulty whatever unit she was on. She graduates February.

If you can’t just stick with it and try again (which is what I would do), medical assistant and radiographic technician are both options given the usual nursing school prerequisites

How old are you OP? If you're still in your early-mid 20s I'd just view it as small inconvenient setbacks, and focus way harder next semester, srs.

I only have a Bachelor's, but one Semester I literally failed EVERY CLASS. I passed every class thereafter until I graduated, srs. Lots of anxiety, depression, identity crisis, etc. One thing that helped was making friends with some nerds and hanging out with them before/during/after classes, including working together on assignments and studying.

Nurses are paid around 100k starting after BSN and thats only 5 shifts every 2 weeks. Then hospitals will pay for you to get your MSN/FNP/NP to bank 150k+. If that isn't motivation enough, IDK what to tell you

I make $80k working part time as an RN. I could make even more if I wanted to but work sucks and I have other things to do with my life. When I first started I worked like crazy but it's not worth it anymore.


There is a shortage of RNs so after you get some experience you can basically work wherever you want. It's stressful but not hard work. Stick it out, I think it's worth it.
Only in America could you find a way to earn a healthy buck And still keep your attitude on self-destruct
