The earthquake hit the Sea of Japan side, not the Pacific.
Tokyo is OK and the death toll and casualties are unknown yet.

Can we get a safety check on our Yellow Fever brahs as well?

Unfortunately, Japan is in the vicinity of (4) different tectonic plate boundaries.

Only six people died in yesterday's earthquakes. *sigh of relief*
Both Tsunami and fire damages weren't as severe as those in the past major Earthquakes.
Fortunately, my family and relatives live on the Pacific side coast.
Thank you for your concern, my good friends of misc. *bow*
Still grounds keep shaking in the coastal area of the Sea of Japan side. I sincerely hope no more Earthquakes or Typhoons this year...

...48 recorded fatalitieswere in Ishikawa and attributed to collapsing houses. At least 19 deaths were reported in Wajima, six in Suzu, five in Nanao, two in Anamizu, and one each in Hakui and Shika...
the earthquake's epicenter at a very shallow depth might be the reason for less damage than initially expected.
But the death toll has been climbing...

Unlike Turkey & third world countries, Japan as the masters of engineering actually build their houses properly like the UK to withstand pretty much anything thrown at it-which is why so few of them collapsed & the deaths will likely be in the hundreds, rather than the tens of thousands like Turkey last year.
