Was Saddam actually a bad dude?
brb took a country full of starving 70 IQ peasants who were beating each other with rocks and sticks to international prominence
brb outlawed all Jewish business practices. Anyone caught trying to fukk over workers by manipulating food, housing, energy, etc. was executed. Essentially eliminated hunger this way. Had one of the lowest overall rates of corruption in the world for many years.
brb US was terrified he'd unite the middle east against against western exploitation and extraction of resources by mega corps
brb was captured and executed purely out of a personal beef with the Bush family
brb muh weapons of mass destruction lol
brb the US soldiers who grew to know him ended up LOVING him
brb US got into multiple brawls with rival Iraqi's who wanted to mistreat saddam and when they tried to desecrate his corpse
brb cried like babies at his execution
Damn, how hard did he red pill those brahs??
Interesting book:

I'm sure he was not. He just fuked with the US government and its oil supply, and that's a good way to get killed.

He was a bad dude in the sense that he tortured & murdered a **** ton of people and had a lot of innocent people killed.
But on the flip side he stabilized the region and ruled an area with an iron fist. That very much needed an iron fist. A lot of people in that entire region are basically savages. You have to be fairly savage yourself to control them.
The US' mistake was thinking we could bring democracy to Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. Places like that require a remorseless dictator to rule. Even if 75% of the population wants a demcratic way of life. If you'd got 25% that are religious zealots and are willing to do whatever it takes to win. That 25% will rule.
TLDR version. We wasted our time.

Tbh...the longer time goes on its harder to see US the good guys
Between overthrowing governments, assassinations (including their own officials), exploitation
Capitalism and democracy does not work....we became a country that is a corporation
We literally are in the downslide of US unless something serious happens

Anyone who the US government tells you to dislike is a good honorable person ( Saddam, Gaddafi, Hitler, Kim Jung Un)
Anyone the US government tells you is good is actually evil and corrupt ( Zelensky, Netanyahoo, Epstein, Churchill, MLK, Mandela)

After seeing the blatant lies during covid that you could easily prove wrong immediately, I don't believe anything the MSM says ... The opposite is more likely true.
Just look at how functional Iraq was before & after his reign. It is much much worse without him.

probably gotta ask some actual Iraqi's who lived during those times to know the real truth.
just like real Syrians told the real truth about Assaad.
Hint: Western media likes to lie to support their agenda.

Most dictators are personable.
You don't stay dictator for long if everyone in your inner circle hates you.
The problem with totalitarian rule is not that the dictators are "bad dudes". It's that there's no feedback mechanism for abuses at the bottom.
The same way Americans don't care what happens to people in 3rd world countries, dictators don't have to care what happens to their own people.
Democracy is not great because the best people make it to the top.
It's great because when somebody at the top starts doing something that really affects QOL for the people at the bottom, they get thrown out of office quickly.

He was not a benevolent dictator. I'm sure you wouldn't be asking this if you had lived under his regime.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

have any of you in this thread actually set foot in iraq and spoke to people there. most iraqis hated him and were excited to see him gone.
issue is the us went full idiot with its de-baathification after the successful overthrowing of the army/government, and disbanding the iraqi army/police
suddenly hundreds of thousands of men were out of jobs with nothing to do and pissed off at the loss of income.
had they done what many experts had reccommended by utilizing the existing efficient baathist government officials and army to run things in a post saddam world they would have been successful. even the americans after ww2 kept some nazis in place to keep things civil in germany.
totally huge mistake by paul bremer and rumsfeld. also didnt help that tommy franks had ZERO plan for a post saddam iraq, and literally retired and quit as soon as the easy part was done (after the initial successful invasion).
highly reccommend this book

Why don't you ask the Kurds and Shia Muslims what they thought of him. Ask the Iranians the same question, as well as the Kuwaitis.
I swear, some of you are beyond ****ed in the head.

Before I left my job contracting in Baghdad, I asked one of the interpreters on my team what life was like before and after the US intervened and killed Saddam.
Without going into too much detail, he said that life in general after the USA invaded, is worse. Saddam was a madman, but he kept people in check, America trying to restructure their government for the better did not work.
The only thing "democracy" got Iraq was an Iranian bank-rolled government. (ded fkn srs).
Wort ew in th wold.

Democracy has no accountability because no one individual is in charge of any decision. All decisions are made by the "majority" which allows things to happen without anyone having to risk taking all the blame when it goes wrong. This leads to the worst type of people running for office, because they want to enrich themselves without having to face any consequences. The worst people in the country are leading the democratic government because it appeals to those without honor or integrity.
The USA is a clown show today with cities that look like scenes out of horror movies. Who is responsible for that? Which politicians caused it, and what were their consequences? Many of them weren't even voted out LOL.
Democracy is the favored form of government by the corrupt elite not because they believe in freedom or equality, but because they know it's the best way to have a totalitarian society while making the people believe they're free. Stupid people think their right to vote means anything and that they have freedom. They do not. Their opinions don't matter, and it shouldn't matter either.
Unfortunately stupid people will always be the majority, which invalidates democracy as a serious form of government.

I don't think he was a great dude but he certainly wasn't the worst and did bring some stability to a chaotic country. Certainly not as bad as isis and the fractured radical islam cells that followed his collapse. USA really likes doing that for some reason. Replace bad with worse. Go to war 20-30 years down the road, rinse and repeat. Hell we'll probably go to war with Ukraine 20 years from now with our track record.

You ever notice famines only occur in totalitarian regimes, never in democracies? Ireland, North Korea, USSR, China. Why do you think that is?

Each even chapter discusses the dry statistical logistics of how the communist state systematically starved 36 million Chinese peasants through mismanagement.
Each odd chapter discusses the various tortures the cadres used to steal the last grains of rice from starving farmers.
It's very well sourced.
