Because the Libertarian Party utterly incompetent and beholden to fringe voices. You have lunatics like Darryl Perry who want to ban drivers licenses and let retards open carry bazookas. Then you have SJWs like Jo Jorgensen who want to open the border and let kids transition into trannys. When I was younger Ron Paul made libertarianism seem appealing because his ideals were synonymous with freedom. After Gary Johnson’s disastrous 2016 campaign, I will never vote for the LP again.
The problem is they’ve lost their way. The libertarians of the 2000s had it right. They were fiscally conservative and socially tolerant. They were anti-war, pro-gay marriage (usually by virtue of abolishment government involvement in marriage), pro-legalization, pro-2nd amendment, anti-tax, anti-regulation and so on. Candidates like Ron Paul had the best policy positions from each side and none of the worst ones.
Today libertarians have the worst policy positions from each side because everyone intelligent enough to put the concepts into practice joined a major party. All of the far more practical versions of the best libertarian policies have been absorbed into the Republican Party via Donald Trump. MAGA is the new LP.

If I were to label myself, libertarian is probably the closest, but it's a total pipe dream to think one would ever get elected. Ron Paul was our best shot. Deep state is too deep. Elitists can't make money without the war machine.
And no, open borders doesn't seem like a very realistic approach in the current environment. Likely an old ideology that needs an update. I pick and choose what makes sense based on my own logic. That's why labels don't work.
