Borat 1 was one of the funniest movies of all time. The Borat skits from The Ali G Show were even funnier than that. Just raw comedy gold.
Sacha Baron Cohen was a fuking comedic genius. All of his characters were perfectly crafted, knew where to poke their victims to get a reaction, had perfect timing, his content was incredible. Then sometime after Bruno came out, he did what far too many Hollywood success stories do, which is become an activist. He let the insiders guilt him for his comedy. He became ashamed of certain jokes he told early in his career and in a self righteous attempt to “right the wrongs” of his past, he decided to use Borat as a tool for social justice instead of a pure comedic outlet as originally intended. It’s the same thing that happened to Howard Stern.
That’s why Borat 2 sucks. It’s pushing an agenda, not simply trying to make the audience laugh.
