Last time I went to a steakhouse they burnt my steak on the outside

Is this normal?

Do you guys like your steaks to be burnt on the outside?

You want the outside of the steak charred so it doesn’t look and taste like it was cooked in a dishwasher or microwave.

Which steakhouse was it?

You want it to have a nice sear on the outside. A good crust has a lot of flavor.
