Over an entire lifetime none of that is unreasonable. How much do you think an $800k house including all of the interest paid over 30 years is? And pets cost money. If you have multiple pets you have to feed them and take them to the vet. That's not pet care as in doggy daycare expenses. We're talking basic expenses that are mandatory to own a pet.

And as for car purchases... let's say a car lasts you 15 years on average. That means one person will need at least 4 cars in their lifetime. If we're talking 2 people now it's 8 cars. $15-20k per car you're looking at $150k before any repairs or maintenance costs.

Assuming the other numbers on that graphic.....your house is paid for, you're vehicles are paid for, you've got no debt, average life span is to what 75-77, retire at 65ish......got 10,12 maybe 15 years by the stats......50-70k/year with no debt. Should be fine.

New American dream is basically living with your parents until you inherit their house, being single because it's too expensive to do dating and, God forbid, get someone pregnant and have kids to feed, and also working 2-3 jobs just to afford your hobbies and that Starbucks coffee every day.

The problem is people have unrealistic expectations in relation to their abilities/efforts.......They think they just deserve something or should have it handed to them......The American "dream" is just that.....a "dream"

Most people can live a happy and comfortable life if they're realistic and financially smart.....managing their expectations and knowing where they sit.
