ITT: Is anyone planning on cutting this winter/spring? If so, what's your goal?

In recent years, I've been engaging in a yearly cut around end of February to end of May. Each year, I try to push it further than the year before. Last year, I cut for approximately 100 days was able to get leaner than I'd ever been. Since June, I've been pretty successful at working hard to maintain my conditioning, only putting on around 5-6 pounds, most of that probably being water/glycogen. At this point, my cutting goal will be to try and cut down even more than last year. I'm really curious to see what will happen. Kind of scared too, to be honest. Uncharted territory. Each year, cutting becomes more and more challenging as lifestyle pressures continue to mount and time/energy continue to become scarcer and scarcer. Gonna try my best to plow through that and welcome this challenge with open arms.

Anyone else cutting soon?

I was recomping through most of 2023 but was held back a bit at various times due to a couple of injuries and illnesses, plus I got a bit lazy and was drinking more than I should have during the fall, eating some late night junk as a result, etc.

Started zero alcohol as of about two weeks ago. A couple years back I dropped about 35 lbs between Jan and May just by cutting out alcohol and tracking cals (wasn't going to the gym at the time). I'm just at the very tail end of getting over the flu, which has kept me out of the gym for most of the past couple weeks. Going to cut for the foreseeable future to try getting nice and lean by the time warm weather rolls back around.

I don't have a goal in mind in terms of weight and will just base it on the mirror. Visually, I want to see a more defined jawline and more visible abs when I'm done. Cutting out alcohol should help with facial aesthetics, and I maybe have 20 lbs or so to drop before results become pretty evident in the mirror. We'll see.

Cutting out alcohol and similar empty calories can make a tremendous difference. I remember way back in the day before I started lifting, I made the decision to cut out soft drinks. This was probably in my late teens. Just that caused a shift in my weight. I remember it was the first time I actually noticed it.

Best of luck to you.

Maintaining 180-185 10% bodyfat year round, tend to push it for a few weeks into high 170's, but end up over eating back to the 180's. Goal would be less over eating and more time spent sub 180. I'll gauge progress based on how concerned friends and family get.

I've been pursuing a similar approach in the past few years. I 'retired' from the whole constant meticulous calorie tracking bulk/cut year round cycles at that point. Got really tired of that and just ended up gaining way too much weight on bulks and spinning my wheels. My new goal was to maintain the physique I'd spent a decade building throughout the year and cutting a few months every late winter to cut down, eventually hitting a whole new weight class essentially. Kind of like a semi-retired approach. Now, that's still my goal with an emphasis on health and well-being, maintaining a lean(ish) physique year round, but also challenging myself appropriately every year.

Nice bro. I’m cutting right now too actually. I find I get more motivated when I’m doing something contrary to what the rest are - while it’s freezing outside & everyone was in bed eating holiday food gorging themselves, I’m outside doing cardio and coming back to eat chicken & rice

Also once I get lean enough it’s easy af to maintain for the warmer months, can drink or relax a bit and still stay very lean

Yeah same, that's a good point. I personally think it's important to regularly step out of your comfort zone and to challenge yourself to constantly be moving forward in life. It's a bit of an extreme analogy, but if a shark swims, it dies. There's always room for growth.

I'd like to drop 20ish. Workouts aren't the issue, just gotta dial in my diet. Lately I've been really lazy tracking calories and it shows.

At the end of my last cut, I was 50 pounds lighter than I used to be at my heaviest. You'd be really shocked at just how much weight you have to lose. If your goal is to cut down to 220 or so, I'm sure you'd be able to easily get down into the 190s for sure.

Best of luck srs

I'm goin' for a Sam Sulek look, I think. 220 seems optimal. Might still have to cut fat weight from there though.

From the photos I've seen, the dude is actually really lean. Depending on how much muscle mass you're carrying around, it might be close to impossible to get that conditioning at that weight naturally.
