ITT: Anyone enjoy T-bar rows as part of their back training? (lifters GTFIH)

I don't know what it is about T-bar rows specifically, but I've always really enjoyed them as a main row movement staple in my back training. Maybe it's the intensity or the perception of this exercise as a classic old school bodybuilding exercise. I tend to go back and forth between those and normal rows or even pendlay rows to keep things fresh, but always really like it when I go back to T-bars. Years back I'd sometimes challenge myself by doing a combined chest/back day and I distinctly remember how brutal it was to go from heavy incline press right into heavy t-bar rows. brb can't breathe after 4 super sets of that.

Gonna hit these in a bit. Later training day today. brb back gonna be obliterated.

Tried them once like 10 years ago, felt awkward as fuk, then I realised you need a special attachment for it

I was literally just wrapping my hands around the barbell

lol I guess that's an understandable mistake. I went and bought myself that piece one would use to do lat pulldown, the "V." Just got back from hitting those hard. Was pretty winded. Sickening pump, though.

It's really funny, I googled this image for you and Amazon told me I bought one 5 years ago. How time flies.

I like them alot, however, my lower back now hurts if I am in that bent over position for longer amounts of time.

I'd like to use a T bar row machine, but they seem to be rare here.

I’ve done some pretty janky chit to make it work with laying plates on top of an end of the barbell wedged into a corner of a lifting platform and rack.

But landmine attachments are only like 150 bucks

I’ve been doing less things like that and more stuff with bands and chains while laying on my back doing inverted rows with a racked barbell. Must be an old man thing, turned 38 today.

Lower back health is so critical as you age. It hits me a bit sometimes but I've been trying my best to focus on protecting my lower back health for many years now, doing things like stretching, proper hydration, and lifting with my knees and never bending at the waist. I look kind of silly doing it but I'm literally always squatting ass out everywhere whenever I need to bend to pick something up. Seriously, it looks like I'm getting ready to twerk all day long. At home, in public, I don't care. Squat with my ass out. Drop a bag of oatmeal at the store and need to pick it up? Ass to grass squat.

It's nice to hit them heavy but it's also really important to maintain good form. That's a lift that can easily tip into the ego lift territory.

Reminds me of the grip on a T-bar row machine. I guess that's the point.

I should really try these. Seems like a fun variation.

the unsupported and landmines work the lower lumbar too (as you mentioned), since I gave up BB rows.

I do them unsupported fairly regularly when I can't get a decent spot for BB rows or dead. More than a year ago I was the only one at my gym who ever did them, but now the landmines regularly taken, alongside the ****ers who do 20 sets of lat pulldowns

Yeah they are a staple of my back/pull workouts. For me it's one of the few row lifts that really work for me. Most other DB or BB rows I tend to work arms and rear delts, but T-bar rows I get that back pump

I do them with a cambered bar because poverty home gym, I feel like can get a better squeeze at the top in my back over regular rows. But regular rows are awkward for me anyway because I had my wrist broken in two places and a bone removed from my elbow so my wrist juts out to the side at a funny angle, which being in neutral prevents, so could just be that

Once I discovered the chest-supported T-bar at my gym it was awesome. Easily my favorite width-building movement at this point. Never felt such great lat pumps or seen such quick mass-building progress with my back as when I started incorporating that movement into my back routine. Highly recommend.

T bar rows are terrible. The point of a back exercise is to get your elbows are far behind your back as possible in order to contract the muscles. T bar rows are very restrictive seeing that the plates or t bar get in the way of full ROM. You're much better off doing cable rows. Don't listen to the low IQ àssholes above me.

Maybe it’s the angle I used but I always found them good for lower mid-back.

Above deadlifts and RDL on the back but slightly below pendlay rows.

At the moment I’m doing 45 degree Yates rows.

Not a fan of fake weights Jeff but he showed an alternative to pendlay rows. From the rack but back is not completely horizontal. My next back movement.

I’m currently loving high rep, high-ish to low rear delt band rows.

Key is to use the 25lb plates, USA gym in BridgeView has 50lb plates that are the size of 25lb plates, think I got up to 350lbs for a few reps around ten years ago.
