Calling an electrician tomorrow - scary moment

A sudden metal burning smell coming from one bedroom. It seemed like it was coming from the ceiling fan. I turned off the fan and light. The smell kept getting worse though even with the wall switch that controls it turned off. Then in the dark just a little while ago I happened to see some sparks going in the wiring, so I cut several circuit breakers to make sure no more electricity is going to the fan. Fuggin hell, that was freaky. I have a fire extinguisher nearby just in case. Guess I won't be sleeping tonight. WTF.

Good question. I'll inspect in the morning when everyone is awake (it's not in the master bedroom). For now I have it turned off at the circuit breaker. I was surprised to see the spark after the wall switch was turned off. That's what freaked me out a bit.
