Sometimes art moves us in ways we never expected that can have lasting impressions on us. Movies commonly do this.

What movies left a positive impression on you? What was it about the movie that left its mark?

Two movies stick out in my mind:

Soul - 2020




Joe works as a music teacher that's waiting for his big break to play in a band and achieve his dream. He seems pretty meh about life until he finally gets a chance to try out for a part in a band with one of his favorite artists. After a chit ton of Pixar movie shenanigans, he finally has his first gig and wonders why he still doesn't feel fulfilled. He comes to learn that life isn't about some big moment, but about every experience you have, every person you meet, and all the little things we often overlook that truly makes life worth living.

Yes Man - 2008



It's a rom com, so it's gonna do all those things rom coms do; guy meets girls, things go badly, everything works out and he gets the girl in the end, but between the outrageous scenarios, it shows a depressed man who would say no to every opportunity take a chance and start saying yes to everything, no matter how absurd. Now of course you can't just say yes to literally everything, something his guru teaches him near the end of the movie, but it's when you say yes to things and give yourself the chance to experience new things that you can find experiences that you never could have foreseen. I think there are quite a few miscers that could benefit from just trying some new things once in a while.

I know it's not a movie, but watching My Name Is Earl had a massive positive change for me. I used to be quite rude, selfish and I'd come across as a bit of a bully. Most of my friends when introducing me would do so saying "He's a kunt but when you get used to him it's pretty funny". Then I watched that show and it just made me want to be a nicer person, can honestly say I feel a lot happier mentally and people treat me a lot nicer in return. It's weird how little things can affect our lives sometimes srs.

Into The Wild (2007). I always say this was the most detrimental movie to my life. It instilled a desire to run away that I don’t know will ever go away until I try it just once.

Yes man is a good choice OP. Been a while so maybe I'll do a rewatch.

Yes man is a great movie.

I don’t know if positive impact is the right word. But some of the scenes from the movie “Blow” hit me in the feels. With him trying to make up lost time with his daughter. Guess it shows all that family time is precious

My buddy used to love that show. Heard nothing but good things about it. Only saw a clip here and there.

Been meaning to watch Everything Everywhere. I know it's a sin, but I've never seen The Truman Show. I read all the Hitchhiker books. What impact did that one leave on you?

started watching it after my grandad died cause I remembered he used to love it and I was being a melt, glad I did because its one of the goat shows, funny and it always has a feel goof feeling to it with some good morals. Will always lol at Randy thinking he's invincible until he tries shoulder barging a door, then falling over shouting "I'm vinsible I'm vinsible!"

Just rewatched Rudy for the first time in years and forgot how brilliant it is.

Comedies are my favorite types of movies. Life is a joke and death is the punchline.

Watched a movie called Jungle recently on Hulu with Daniel Radcliffe made me feel good, but also hit me in the feels. I always enjoy survivor type movies.

Pretty much shows you can go missing, and fall off the face of the earth, and most ppl wouldn't care except a few ppl.


Haven't seen it in years, but will prob do a re watch soon. I remember really enjoying The Place Beyond the Pines, and appreciating my family even more afterwards.

Yeah everything was pretty trippy. Lots of moments that spoke to me.


Arthur in Hitchhikers taught me the lesson that I shouldn't be afraid of a spontaneous adventure and how to adapt to change. I also learned that it isn't beneficial to always be passive.

I really wanna rewatch it on an acid comedown lol.

I definitely recommend the books. I know it's cliche to recommend books based on movies, but there's 5 while books to go through and they're all great. Well, t is a little less great for me, but that's because it's extremely depressing.

I am sailor, marine engineer and freediver and spearo because of that movie I watched in early childhood.

As a father I'm affected a lot by movies about dads. The Pursuit of Happyness and Cinderella Man were powerful for me.

Pretty Woman

Showed me no matter what kind of decisions a woman makes in her life, she expects some stupid simp to come to her rescue.

Been pumping and dumping ever since.
