Damn, MK absolutely sux compared to Tekken and SF

SRS

It sucks for noobs, since you need to learn the combos in order to have fluid gameplay
It sucks for more advanced players since you basically have like 1-2 usable combos per character.

How does this franchise still exist and even outsell Tekken and SF while absolutely being mogged on every aspect?

PS: Also MK11 was better than MK1

Street Fighter kinda sucks now too, been sucky since SFV, even SF4 wasn't all that great, the games were much better when they were 2D. The new Tekken looks great though.

I played like 6 matches of tekken 8 it's not even as good as 7 tbh

The last great fighting games came out in the late 90s

I don't know I played the demo and I think Tekken 8 feels a lot better than 7 did, that game was a huge disappointment for me. Still, series peaked with Tag 2.

90's 2D fighters are the best though, Capcom was on their A-game back then, making the best games they ever made IMO.

I think they are all mediocre compared to the ones released on ps1 and arcade. My favorite modern fighting game is killer instinct 2013 by far.

MK games have been cookie cutter for a long time now. Each new game is basically just a visual upgrade. I'm not sure why they remain so popular. The combat is incredibly slowed with all the X-ray body shots thrown in the middle of the matches constantly.

Guilty Gear and BlazBlue are where it's at nowadays.

Tekken 3 and the PS2 Tekken games were GOAT for me, Soul Calibur was amazing back in the day as well. Street Fighter 3 is still a favorite of mine along with the Alpha games. The arcade era really brought about peak gaming for numerous genres.

Soul calibur 1, dead or alive, killer instinct, bloody roar all goat games man. Nothing I have played since has been on that level. There was just something about those games that were so well designed that captivated you.

It is the "coolest" fighting game.

Coolest characters. Coolest story. Coolest world-building. Best graphics. Best music.

It's the most violent and brutal of all of them. Fatalities, special moves, etc. It bridges the gap between a ton of different intriguing genres realistically. Ninjas, cyborgs, kung-fu, fantasy, demons, vampires, etc.

Even the first three Mortal Kombat games from the 90s had better lore than any other modern fighting franchise today. It mogs purely in aesthetics and vibe. No other fighting game has the same level of immersion or atmosphere.

MK1 lost me with the kameos
Brb spam frost/sareena kameo

Also the customization is turrible, WB requiring real money for all the good skins. The invasions mode also sucked, boring 1rd fights yielding chit rewards. MK1 was meager in content. At least TK8 looks like there’s loads more content in SP

MK lore and brutality mogs the other 2

SF story back then was legit... now seems like it lost any continuity
Animated 90s movies were great

Nice try Orp Tobias.

I just can't believe they're trying to charge $70 for MK1 and Tekken 8 on the fooking PC.

They're not that much ahead, if at all, from MK11 and SF5, and both of those games are like $5.

Lol at lore

MK has huge potential true, but the studio feels like it is ran by retards when it comes to storytelling and worldbuilding. Netherreal Studios should be demoted to concept art studio since the only thing they are really great at is giving barebone ideas

Also fatalities have been shyt since 2D era. Way too goofy, the franchise should go in a more grounded direction since this is where it can shine.

Some new characters introductions and collabs seem to be pretty half assed I'll give you that

MK was always made to appeal to braindead Westoids. As a fighting game, design wise, gameplay, artistic direction, articulation of action, expression of action, depth of professional play, MK has never, ever even been in the same stratosphere as traditional Japanese made fighting games.

MK outsells Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Tekken, Marvel vs Capcom, etc., because it literally appeals to the absolute lowest fkn common denominator of the West. BLOOD VIOLENCE SEX FATALITY BRUTALITY GORE LOUD NOIIIIIIISES!!!1111!! Anything except actual good gameplay. It absolutely blows my mind how after 30+ years, Western developers still do not know how to articulate and express martial arts action on screen. It's still the same janky, uncreative, caveman chit.

But yeah, nobody in the competitive fighting game scene takes MK seriously. All the best competitive talents are found in SF, Tekken, KoF, etc.,.

Mortal Kombat just isn't a fun game. The new ones look too realistic with ****ty boring levels and learning all of the combos sucks. It peaked with 4.
