ITT: Have you ever seriously injured yourself lifting? (DYEL welcome for insight)

Just curious. Been lifting in some capacity for approximately 15 years and I've been fortunate enough to not have really injured myself lifting. Tweaked my schit up a little bit here and there like with a deadlift that was a bit too heavy, but never serious.

For those who've suffered injuries, what happened and what did your road to recovery look like?

For your time.....

*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*

Never seriously injured. And almost all minor tweaks and pulls have been on warmups when I was a little bit careless and thinking about my heavier sets

I tweaked a muscle on the top left of my back about 4 years ago, and every now and then it will flare up if I sleep in a bad position or lift too quick. Gotta be super careful when doing back.

had a MRI scan just to make sure it wasn't skeletal, luckily it's just muscular.

If she smokes, light it up.

years of heavy squatting and sprinting on hard surfaces led to my knees being messed up to the point where I had to get meniscus tear surgery on my left knee. It's still messed up though.

Once while doing heavy dumbbell military press, I felt something rip in the back of my shoulder blade and then sharp pain. Luckily it was just a bad muscle strain on my trap.

I was doing heavy t-bar rows and really cheating on the lift to impress these girls and I strained my neck pretty badly.

I started training when I was in off season football in the 7th grade and just never stopped.... I am 42 now so in the 20+ years of training I am lucky enough to say that I have never REALLY been seriously injured... Sure , I have had aches and pains that I have either had to work through or as I have gotten older just had to take some time off for them to heal but nothing that has ever 100% prevented me from hitting the gym.

Not even a car accident in 2017 that left me with 7 herniated disc's . As a matter of fact 2 different Dr's both mentioned that the main reason I was still upright and walking was due to the "over development" of the muscle around my spine.

But I will say @ 42yo $hit just doesnt heal like it use to....lol... And due to that car accident HOW I train certain body parts has changed but fk it... cant stop wont stop.

I've been lifting weights since about 1995, and I've never had a serious injury.

I've probably had dozens of pulls and tweaks, and a couple of times I might have even torn muscle bellies (like in my left pec). And one time I hurt my wrist pretty bad (probably a bad sprain) doing a heavy clean and jerk. In my final powerlifting meet (2014), I did something during the squat to my lower back that took a few months to heal up.

But nothing like like torn tendons (that I know about) or broken bones, etc.

Let's put it this way, I've never seen a doctor for anything lifting-related, if that answer the question.

Same except I was between 8th and 9th, and I'm 43 now.

Pulled a quad squatting when I started lifting for high school football when I was 14 years old. Cost me my whole freshman season.

Early 20s deadlifted with chitty form and went to snap city. At least 6 months for it to fully heal. Not sure what I did. I’m not a going to the doctor type.

One time I pulled my lower back bent over the hood of my car changing the alternator. Absolutely brutal. The other time, I was literally bent into the back seat vacuuming. Twice with the same car at different times. Lower back injuries are so brutal because they fully incapacitate you. Super painful too, takes a while to heal. I've always tried my best to be ultra careful with moves like deadlifting for these reasons.

The deadlift injury was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done in the gym besides trying to get a girls phone number in the middle of her workout.

I hadn’t done conventional deadlift in over a year, but still maintained strength with RDL. Decided to go for a rep PR and got loosey goosey real quick. I even finished the rest of my session, in complete pain, for some reason to bone headed to realize just how bad I fuked my chit up.

Next morning I couldn’t get out of bed. I was pretty newly married and my wife had to push me over the bed so I could get to all fours to stand up. The next week or so went like that and then very slowly got better for the next 6 months or so.

No major injuries but general wear and tear leading to severely arthritic elbows. Cortisone doesn't do chit anymore.

Directly, no.

But injuries outside the gym have, over time, bled into my workouts and at seemingly random moments will flare up while lifting - exacerbation that at times can be really bad/painful.

I attribute my overall continued physical well being in spite of those accidents/injuries to continuing to lift and maintain skeletal and muscular strength tbh.

Herniated a disc during my bodybuilding years. Lifting heavy all the time, one day I was bending to pick up a weight and suddenly bam I was on the floor and my legs stopped moving briefly. Took a few weeks to recover.

Have torn both rotator cuffs twice, one time I probably should have gotten surgery but didn't, still affects me twenty years later.

Oh, and playing sports as an oldcel I've sprained just about everything. Wrists, I tore my tricep, calves, etc. Bouncing around as a soccer goalie at 47 was definitely not good for my body. Good news is, I've managed to recover with just rest and basic physio.

I was taught by my dad(13) but as i watched pro bb's and learned things i tweaked a few parts.

1.torn tricep doing pushdowns with too much weight- arm turned into a purple sausage and eventually returned to arm size/shape over 3 months
2. left rotator cuff pains- benching 405 for 2 and it took 2 months to go away(never again)
3. strained left calf- seated calf raises and got stuck with no spotter for 15 sec and had to drop it. i couldn't move my leg from the pad, the weight kept it stuck.
took 2-3 months with stim treatment and slow stretching
