ITT: Was Larry Scott the absolute GOAT bodybuilder? (lifters GTFIH)

Dude had the classic physique comprised of freaky size but pleasing and proportionate aesthetics. He was one of my original inspirations when I first started 15 years ago. My uncle lifted weights in the 70s and he once gifted me his old school bodybuilding magazines. One of them had Larry Scott's shoulder workout and I used to do that.

If you were forced to pick one classic physique you see as a pinnacle of the sport, who would you pick?

We're all gonna make it (srs)
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

Sickening physique. Not as massive but quite aesthetic. Reminds me of Frank Zane.

mass monsters kind of ruin bodybuilding in my opinion. Like they're cool to see in the freakshow sense but I feel like aesthetics should be the goal.

It went downhill after the golden era. Arnold and co were freaky big but still aesthetic. It's gotten to ridiculous lengths these days. It's nice that the Olympia started the classic physique division but even those dudes are so big and fwarking freaky.

damn Larry Scott's arms and delts were so full and round. My favorite physique of all time is probably Bob Paris

unfortunately, he stopped lifting and wrote a book about how he didn't enjoy bodybuilding

That's actually from the magazine I referenced. I'm pretty sure he was doing his signature scott press. Look it up, it's a pretty good one.

Actually, come to think of it, I think I'll throw those into my routine. It's been years.

It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.

Step into my gym (dead fkn srs). I train in 70s lifting shorts that are basically boxers, nothing else. Speedo seems uncomfortable. I don't want all that tight fabric around my jock.

Although he's juiced to hell and back, I actually think Mike O Hearn might have my favourite physique thinking about it.

He has a good balance of size and aesthetics.
If she vapes, bin her off.

If she smokes, light it up.

Doesn't he claim natty? Always found that ridiculous. Like Robby Robinson who claimed he developed natty 20" arms and a 28" waist just lifting weights and eating fried chicken from his mom's kitchen lol. Dude is so full of schit and continues using old photos of him on his social media.

But yes, O'Hearn has a sickening physique.

Yeah I think the natty claim is in jest like it is with most of them.

He did have a big trend on tiktok recently, and blew up. He then came out and pretty much said he's on tren.

This. But it was probably always destined to end up here due to the subjective aspect of it. In most competitions there is a clear, objective way to crown the winner. When judges get involved, like in gymnastics or figure skating, the competitors have to constantly try to advance the sport with more difficult moves and combos. In bodybuilding the only way to constantly getting a “wow” factor is to push the envelope further and further. Then like you said we eventually end up in freak show status. People want to look more in a fascinated, combo of admiration/disgist, and can’t turn away like they’re watching a train wreck. Whereas in the past it was more likely to be jsut straight admiration for getting so close to peak human form(no homo).

Frank Zane is the end all be all.
Also this. Probably the best example of flying close to the sun without getting too close.

Edit to add - though I wonder how much of our perspective is based on what we’ve already seen and become desensitized to. For example, did people back in the day view Frank Zane the way we saw Ronnie Coleman as his peak? If we continue to utilize scientific breakthroughs will people in 30 years think Big Ron was the best example of getting big but not too big?
