Are we at the end of media?

Most everything that comes out feels like it barely crosses the threshold of being “decent” or “solid”, with few exceptions. Video games, shows, movies, most of it feels like it exists just to exist; to make money, line pockets, and justify studio’s continued existence. Not out of creative passion or real vision.

And even aside from that, it feels like that we collectively have experienced so many stories and creations that hardly anything truly innovative or groundbreaking comes out anymore - everything feels like familiar or typical, whether it’s of good or bad quality. Idk I’m just talking ****

When you watch old shows there used to be a message and purpose behind the episodes (think Twilight Zone or Andy Griffith) and movies had a slower build and were more dialogue driven.

There's hardly a point to media now, just bobs, explosions, and diversity.

yes very true

Kids today are being raised watching tiktokers and live content creators more so than being invested in TV etc.

a 15 year old will be more likely to name iShowSpeed over Leonardo dicpario

let that sink in
I appreciate well thought out subtle trolling.

So much of everything made today is shameless, barely altered rehash. The most change you'll see to long-standing formulas being reworked is just politicizing / race-swapping characters. IE, Marxist subversion.

This is due to a few factors...

1. Talentless people worming their way into positions of powers by cancelling their competition and usurping the creators of franchises. The goal is equal parts selfish upward mobility and to "subvert" things and force-feed radicalized politics on the viewer. This turns media from art into struggle sessions
2. Algorithms and AI handling much of the heavy lifting in the creative process
3. Teams like "Sweet Baby Inc." who are hired to work on "narrative, characters, worldbuilding" who hypocritically claim they are "diversifying stories" because their writer's room looks like the BK Kids, without realizing having the SAME WRITER'S ROOM FOR EVERY VIDEO GAME IS NOT DIVERSITY.
4. DEI / ESG compliance
5. Gen-Z being dominated by drag queen culture and acting like childish narcissists
6. Social media trending towards lazy rehash rather than original "content." Instead of someone playing a song they wrote, they'll be doing a cover 1,000,000 other people already played and smiling at the camera every 5 seconds.

Bear in mind, the whole idea of communism, "seize the means of production," is now being applied to art. This strangles the spirit of a nation. Counter-culture does not exist anymore.
Even down to comedy...think about it. It's all memes and "sh!tposting." Break down what those are...just the repetition of someone else's work, usually thrown together with something stolen from someone else. Same thing with lip-syncing, or posing like a weirdo while some crappy song plays as an excuse to show off your body.

tl;dr - Gen Z are commies who act like drag queens who don't have a single shred of originality and use "cancel culture" to remove the talent from the competition so they never have to develop the skills required to compete with them.

There's very niche content available for every hobby, no matter how small it is.

I watch mountain bike content on youtube for like 80% of my total media consumption.... There is virtually ZERO mountain bike content available on commercialized MSM, so why would I use it?

This is true of most things people do IRL.

Yu gi oh, pickleball, golf, etc etc.

some random above-average expert is dishing out better content for individuals to watch than MSM ever could, AND these content creators are making very good money with relatively small followings - selling merch, ad revenue, product sponsorships, etc.

They tend to milk these shows/movies that they know people will watch just because it's there and it's a familiar brand. I stay away from anything like that because it's boring.

Film creators that i've actually enjoyed in recent years:

- Taylor Sheridan
- Ari Aster (He's part of the tribe, but his films are still interesting and creative imo.)

Your reward for supporting globohomo and democracy for the last few decades.

Remember, you wanted this! And you hate the people who wanted to avoid this future (Japan, Germany)

A lot of news media companies are going under as I read yesterday. People are tired of them. As the author pointed out, in the past news media was a blue collar job. Then it became romantic to work in news, attracting Ivy League graduates, and ever since that happened news reporting has gone down hill.

RIP to the legacy media, 1974-2024

I guess with media overall, it does seem rare that something new comes along these days. A number of years ago I read a book saying that each generation is different but tends to follow a general trend. The author said that the baby boomer generation was a generation that believed in new inventions, new things. They invented new music, new clothing styles, etc. Their children though the author predicted would be a copy generation, that wasn't so much innovative as much as they would try to improve upon their parents generation inventions. In someways I suspect that has been the case.
