❄️⚡ Wow, Simultaneous Thunder, Lightning... and Snow in Tokyo! ⚡❄️

This Monday night of Feb. 5, it was snowing first, and then suddenly we saw a lightning bolt flash through the sky and heard the rumbling of the following thunder.



It was fun to watch it from a safe place at home.

Snow and lightning simultaneously, it's the first time in my 64-year-life.

You'll never know everything in your short life.

Never snow, but a thunder and lightning with a huge rain storm. Still haven't seen anything that compared to that one. It was probably around June, or July 1999.

Why is there no lightning when it snows?

That is because the creation of thunder and lightning require significant amounts of atmospheric instability, which requires warm air. This is ample in the spring and summer, but not as much during winter snow storms.
I've heard they had a Thundersnow White Xmas in Boston years back.

I'm pretty sure incredibly that Christmas is and has been bigger in Japan than the US for at least 30 years. there are supposedly way more lights than any city in the US.

I am not sure about that. Most of the lights come from commercial activities.
