Could you shoot to kill?
If you had to.
E.g., someone snatches your kid and starts to run off.
I'm fairly certain I could - never had to, though.
P.S: I support castle doctrine.

Most people don't without training. Only about 15-20% of troops in WW2 were willing to fire their rifles.

Among the US concealed/open carry population the number is probably a fair bit higher because it's self-selecting but if you take the average person and put a gun in their hand the odds are they will not point it at a person and pull the trigger.
I hope I'm never put in a situation like that.

I THINK I could quite easily, and that the only reason I might hesitate would be potential legal consequences - remove that from the equation and I think it probably be really easy for me.
Obviously, you never know until you're in that situation though.

I can detach from any and all value assigned to the human form with respect to my personal identity giving the ability to do the worst things a human could do to another person.
I do not want to.
I want to not hurt people.
However if my rational brain gives my ego the green light, someone is about to die.

I'm fairly certain I could, but it's easier said than done. In a situation like the one I describe (or a home invasion), I hope I would without a second thought.

Correct....although, I'm speaking from a personal war time context.
If your are truly in a situation of that nature and you make the proper decision because you want to stay alive you find out who you really are in very short time.
You cannot hesitate in those few nanoseconds, hesitation will get you killed.
Of course, the same applies if one has to protect their spouse or family from life threatening aggression.

Personally I've never been in such a situation but I've had a couple close calls. I have had it in the back of my mind if I would do it if the situation called for it. Mental prep doesn't do everything, but it will help give presence of mind in a bad situation, and I do feel I would if I felt I needed to.

If someone snatches my kid they aren't a human being and I don't have to feel bad about making them cold, I just need to make sure that I don't hurt my own child.

Legally yes, imminent threat is there (perceived threat does not count, fear alone is not a reason for defense). As for if I could mentally, shot plenty of people with 'less lethal' rounds, so doubt I'd hesitate if it came to it, but I doubt I'd feel good about it.

If it was to save my child, I think I could do it. I know that I would die for him without a moments hesitation. So I think I could shoot someone if his life was in danger.

Never ever "shoot to kill"
You're not trying to "kill" someone. Thats murder.
But shooting to STOP THE THREAT, as your example above, hell yeah...
You carry to have self defense to stop any threats to you or loved one's lives. Not to kill people.

The training is probably meant to remove any hesitation from you in such a scenario.

Most meat eaters could probably not even kill an animal for food (be it a cow, pig, duck, chicken). And then butcher it.
I think killing is a whole other matter tbh.

I haven’t put thousands of rounds down range to not be able to do it. Worst part is that humans arent really shoot n see targets, so center mass shots don’t give feedback

Every single person on the planet could. The only things that vary are triggers and thresholds.
Some people can do it with very little hesitation, whereas others need the person to have actuallyalready harmed their offspring.
The troops that wouldn't fire their rifles: if they were already wounded, had their rifle in their hands and the guy who had shot them was running at them with his bayonet? They are shooting that f'ker.

Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!
The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.
They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

Home invasion, great time. Most likely have better cover, know the layout, and if smart unlikely to hurt innocent.

Since then killed quite a few rabbits and chickens. But I have rarely met anyone in my life who does the same. So the whole "Yeah I'd saw them in half with my shotgun" reply is a bit, eh. My first animal kill stayed with me too - the way the eyes changed.
