My bros smoked them for like 5 solid years and we got the hang of which brands and types of coals/shisha.

Get a decent setup, not too expensive, not cheapest ever, not too tall, those fukers tip over easy. So shorter one.


Flavors you can go through to find your favorites You'd be surprised how some sound good but taste like ****, and vise versa. The ones I bought in a bazaar in Egypt were the best, never found as good of ones in the states. Can't remember which brands they were and don't think I took any pics.

I do remember you can't skimp on putting a small amount of shisha in the bowl, as you don't want it to burn, and larger packed bowls prevented much burning. You'll learn how to move the coal around the top of the bowl to keep an even cook and avoid hotspots.


As for coals, we tried actual charcoal and other methods, but found out the round pucks that come in a silver alumi8num foil type wrapper were the best for out needs.

In the middle east its mostly adults who do it. And there are hookah bars on every corner. Even in the states there are hookah bars. definitely not a teenager scene. And its not weed usually in these, its flavored tobacco, like really sticky clumps of tobacco.

I know kids used to do it back in high school. Was all the craze among certain groups. And there's a Hookah bar not too far from me, always young kids hanging out there. College hipsters. Never heard of adult men smoking flavored tobacco though.

Man, its been a decade or more, I'm kinda rusty on exact brands and chit.

We went through a number of hookas, the hoses wear out, get kicked over and broken, etc. A lot of them will be fancy looking chinese chit. Like super thin metal, look fancy, but will break after a week, so go for a nice thick glass base, without all the ornamental nonsense, all you need is heavy duty feeling hoses without tassels and dumb frilly chit. Find a smoke shop and ask the sales guys whats the most durable ones, and then feel them. If it feels like hollow chineseum you could snap with three fingers, avoid...


I'm sure youtube has a lot of vids showing the current trends and best stuff out there, I'm way outta date on this, and I never went all in like my buddies did (I never owned one or smoked full time like them)

Shisha is a very sticky wet mass, and you steam them to get the smoke, probably similar to vaping. When it starts to burn, you get horrible smoke that makes you cough like a mother, and you KNOW you got it too hot and burning... Its a very fine tuning thing, moving the coal every minute or so, so that you only get vapor, NOT burning smoke.You literally want to keep the shisha (tobacco) moist.
