Are you afraid of flying?

Interested to know if any miscers are afraid of flying.


If you are fearful of flying, what makes you afraid? Can you explain what makes you fearful, why you struggle with flying, what you've done to overcome it etc. As someone who was previously fearful of flying, I'd like to see if I can answer your questions and help you overcome this fear.

i dont like flying per se...but i will fly if it's the only means of getting from point a to point b

the reason for the fear is based upon the fact that when flying as soon as you board the plane you relinquish ALL control

think it's basic human instinct to be uncomfortable in situations like that

I've flown 1000s of legs at this at this point, and always enjoy it quite a bit. However, I'm not going to say I'm not a little bit afraid of it though.

Obviously on the 787 or A330 or larger planes you never feel turbulence and the flight is completely stable so you never really worry about anything. But I've been on some 737s or A320s that were bouncing around like crazy and you kinda just clench your bootyhold a bit until it becomes more stable.

Was talking to someone in the industry, said that the only reasons to be afraid of are human error. The plane itself and the materials are able to withstand much more arduous environments than turbulence and have some crazy flex.

I never was afraid (fly maybe 2 times per yr) but as i read about outsourced labor(cheap) i worry about the level of mechanics.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Yes. Deathly afraid. I flew about a dozen times between 2019-2021 and after the last flight I vowed I would never fly again (srs). It’s not worth the anxiety.

I don't like flying but will to get where I need to go. I'm not terrified but definitely always worried about crashing or dying on a flight. Especially during take off and landing.

Of course, the plane isn't going to fall apart at all. If something takes a plane down, it's something unexpected like a bird strike or a malfunction somewhere. But they've largely figured out all of the possible items that can go wrong at this point, so we haven't had a single commercial accident in the US since 2009.
