Sony President wants to grow margins with multiplatform first party support (RIP)
Sony President Hiroki Totoki says he wants to go aggressive in improving margins by growing 1st party with multi-platform #PlayStation
“In the past, we wanted to popularize console and the 1st party titles' main purpose was to make the console popular. It is true, but there is a synergy to it. So if you have strong first party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, 1st party can be grown with multiplatform and that can help operating profit to improve. So that is another one we want to proactively work on.
I personally think there are opportunities out there for improvement of margins, so I would like to go aggressive in improving our margin performance.” - Hiroki Totoki

Now all of a sudden ponies are all about sharing games across platforms. Just can't help but LOL at the lower IQ pony members that immediately cry about anything Microsoft because it seems like half the time Sony ends up copying them.

Console wars officially over.
If they commit to releasing all their 1st party titles on PC, I'm all for switching back. I have 10+ years of games on my Steam account and would prefer to continue buying games there. Steam is fuking great, your games would last a lifetime and you'd never have to worry about backward compat due to being locked on an outdated console.
Guess I gotta start reading up on modern PCs as I haven't built one in years.

These companies starting to realize exclusives are just taking money out of their pockets and limiting their communities. Every big major money grubbing game that these console companies want to mimic is a multi plat game.

Well Helldivers 2 is doing big on pc so this probably affirms that decision
With Ms already doing day 1 pc, and Sony likely to make the full transition in the next few years, I will probably be a 5090cel

I think them releasing Helldivers and other MP stuff on PC day and date makes a ton of sense, but I don't think it makes sense to release the SP stuff day and date, as I believe it's been a big key to Sony success. But doesn't bother me if they do, I just hope they keep making consoles, I don't want to be forced into getting a PC.

Just look at thethread about Sony expecting declining hardware sales; they're not immune from reaching their peak audience, either. The only option left is to expand who they sell their games to in order to continue recouping the expanding costs.
The hardware itself has historically been a loss leader that they try to inch towards turning a profit eventually, but it's the software that made them money right out of the gate. Now the software is taking more time and money to make, and there's dramatically less coming out than ever before.
What gets me is how Sony is perhaps one of the most guilty of neglecting the easy money from selling their older games when some of the most popular games are Minecraft and Fortnite. I get the feeling that Jim Ryan did some real cultural damage over there because they go full retard on cutting edge visuals to the point where they made a next to useless "remaster" of TLOU2* when they could probably get by doing a lot less on a wider range of older titles that would sell well off of nostalgia and namesake alone. The easiest example is the lack of an Uncharted trilogy for the PC, and then they act shocked that the 4th (5th?) game in the series doesn't sell well when ported over.
*Now with Helldivers 2 exploding, they should have just released Factions 2 and told Bungie to shove it up their ass. They threw away who knows how much time/money only to take the advice of a terminally mismanaged company that has coasted off of sheer luck their entire existence.

Found this post from Reddit. He talked about exclusives on PC, not xbox.
It's not even really what he said. You can listen to it here.
https://www.irwebmeeting.com/sony/fa..._en/index.html(starting around minute 59)
Basically he was asked how he thinks they can improve profitability and one of the things he mentions is that first party can improve it's operating margins by going multiplat with PC.
And then he ultimately says that he sees ways to improve the profitability of the games business (in general not just first party) and he wants to aggressively work on that.
This PC part is not new information, Sony wanting to use PC to improve game profitability of their games has been known for years now. That's something these executives do constantly during the shareholder Q&A's, they simply repeat things the company had stated before.

Srs though, all you have to do is look at the numbers. That's what all the suits are doing. Think like an investor.

I know people that have steam and they literally don't even talk about the games. I don't even know why they have a PC tbh. Pretty sure they play like 2 games max on it.

Remember the Steam Machine? I bet we'd see something like that reemerge if Sony and MS really stopped making consoles.

When there's an update for Steam, no problem. I've never had an issue. Microsoft just looks in the direction of Windows, and it's some ungodly fresh hell that they're going to will upon the world - practically untested with zero quality assurance (because they fired them).
All of what's happening with Xbox feels like a Microsoft scale problem where they're constantly seeking some mythical new audience by trying all kinds of wacky shenanigans instead of going back to something that should be stupidly apparent.
With Xbox, it was go back to making good games that are fun to play instead of bemoaning how nobody wants to buy an Xbox anymore. Yeah? Well nobody would want to buy a Microsoft published game if it was multiplatform either because they either don't exist or are mediocre.
With Microsoft, it's reconfiguring the entire basic user interface so thateveryone in existencenow gets to share the pain of trying to understand what the hell they were even trying to accomplish, or trying to make fetch happen with Edge until somebody snapped and decided to force it (where is the FTC on this?), and now shoving AI into everything as though the AI is going to understand what in the hell was the point of nesting basic context menus.
Microsoft didn't even bother tofinishWindows 10, they just decided to move on to 11 while creating an unnecessary, artificial minimum requirement locking out millions of devices, and now they haven't even finished11before announcing that they're going to make 12.
Xbox hasn't had a single banger in this entire "Series" generation, and now it's like they want to press forward on time itself just to awkwardly distance themselves from the mess that they created rather than admit how they might as well have abandoned games long ago with how half-assed they've been about it.
Funny enough, where the two come together is how the only way for their Xbox games to gain any traction on PC was to just sell them on Steam... because the Xbox app sucks so bad and no sane person would want to use that over Steam.
I'd trust a Steam computer with built in compatibility a million times over than the ongoing train wreck that is Windows.
