Would you give your children your full inheritance?

I saw this on Twitter/****ter



I mean it does make sense to me; the notion of giving your children your full inheritance. Your kids are a part of your legacy and they should continue to be better off because of you long after you are gone. I heard about that Jackie Chan story where his kids won't get any of his money because he wants them to work for what they eventually have. If you raised your kids to not be spoiled (it is possible even if you're worth 100 million) then they should still be hard-working.

Take a look at Hulk Hogan's kids. He did spoil his whole family and now they are incapable of hard work. Don't be like The Hulkster.

Yeah. Nobody else to give it to when you're gone. If your kids are royal fk ups and you don't communicate for years I guess I get it though.

I will give my oldest son my farm. The rest can fight over whatever money I havnt spent on hookers and blow.

I think it's kind of ridiculous to not leave your kids anything. You could set it up in trusts that they don't get until a certain age or only get an allowance each year. I would donate some to charities but my kid(s) would get the bulk of it.

I've already started. The farms/farmland I own are on 20 year leases in my daughter's name and I will add to that over time.

Everythng else goes to my wife.

Of course. But since I don't plan on having kids it'll go to my brother and his kids, if he has none it'll go to my cousins kids.

from what I've read so far I think a lot of them are giving most of it to charities. Charities can be known to misappropriate funds... Also putting on my tinfoil hat I wonder if some of those "charities" are shell companies for the world elite, so it goes right back into their pockets in a roundabout way. If you want to be a star you gotta play by their rules...

I'll probably set up college funds for my grandkids.

Assuming I die in my late seventies/early eighties, my kids will be middle aged. I'll be a failure as a father if they need an inheritance from me at that age.

I have already started structuring for my infant daughter, wife is more than covered.

Annually I give decent amounts to "effective charities" - it's crucial to choose a charity that can actually make a difference, and not use significant portions of donations received to get fat off of.

Well to me inheritance isn't just for your kids, it's for your grandkids and they can pass it along to their kids and grandkids as well. It would be nice to help my descendants mitigate any bull**** in the coming shoebox apartment era of Chinese 9-9-6 work schedules. It's bound to happen sometime..

Be thankful that the US inheritance tax threshold isn't silly. The UK is 300 and something or 500k if it includes property.

There are several ways to dodge some, or all, of it, the easiest of which is gifting it to them before you die. As long as you live 7 years after the gift, it becomes tax free.

UK IHT is £325k anything above that is taxed at 40%

The property threshold is only if you're giving it to your kids/grandkids and it's your primary residence.

Punitive af.

Royal family of course has an exemption.

Imagine you have more than one kid and do no estate planning. The government gets more than your kids. Absolutely disgusting.

IMO inheritance tax should be 100%, and use that revenue to eliminate the income tax.

Imagine showing up to a game of monopoly 2 hours late and every property is already owned with a hotel on it.

That's what it's like being born with no inheritance.

You simply cannot compete with people who inherit $100M+ dollars. They're collecting $4-7M per year passively, you're breaking your back for $300k. You will never, ever, catch up.

Give your kids enough so they can do anything, but not so much that they'll do nothing.

The goal is to make kids who are hungry and driven af, granted the goal is also to live long enough until it becomes apparent whether they are or aren't
