How much house (sq ft) do you need

Mine is 1,400 for family of 4. Happy with the size and wouldn't change it. We recently downsized from a 2,000 sq ft home.

Anything over 2000sf is overkill unless you have a large family.

i think that size is about perfect for me but also like a decent sized yard...about 0.5 acre or more. not a huge fan of the modern neighborhoods with 0.25 or less where so many people feel on top of you

We're in a 2,450 sq/ft house. 3 bed, 2 bath, 3 car garage. The only thing I wished it had was room on the side of the house for our 5th wheel.

This guy gets it . I’m single and would want this . I’d like a dedicated computer room for gaming and photo editing.
I live in 870 sq ft and it’s difficult. If I won the lottery I’d want a kitchen almost the size of my house.

4 car attached garage and a detached 3000 sq ft garage for hobbies , wood working , welding etc

Ours is 3k for wife and kid and me. We have a guest room (parents live few hours away so they use it often) and an empty room but its soon to be filled with 2nd kid.

I had the big house and it was totally unnecessary. I loved my 1800 sq ft ranch house on 1/2 acre. 4 bedroom with 2.5 baths, half of basement finished into a family room and the unfinished side was laundry area on one end and the other end was home gym. I felt like that was the perfect size house.

2500 sq ft home with a family of 4, I'd estimate that 90% of our time is spent in the kitchen though , mostly around the kitchen island where I work from and where the family congregates.

3500-4000 so I have room to grow and room to escape.

Could be smaller depending on layout and storage/ basement.

Have ~3500 for just me and its not enough. I have hobbies and such though, so I need the space (office setup, tools, equipment, machines, etc.)

My next place will have a 10K sq ft steel frame building and then maybe I could go a little smaller on the house itself, but I like being able to have people over and a couple of spare bedrooms for family when they visit.

I have a GF but I'm living alone. I have a 1100 sqft 2/1 apartment. It's already a little overkill for me, but I say that because I don't have certain furniture pieces that most people want, by choice.

I've been actually looking at houses lately, and I'm particularly interested in 2k+ sqft 3/2, however I'm open to 2.25k+ sqft 4/3 as well.

Do I need all that space? No. But if/when I ever had a GF move in, or kids, I'll appreciate it. I think this kind of size range makes the house more marketable in the long run too.

house could be as small as 1000 sf, but outbuildings like storage shed, wine cellar, cold room for hanging deer etc. Micro distillery barn. Takes space.

Currently living in 2700 with 2 adults, 1 toddler and a 70lb dog........don't want/need any bigger.
-4 bedrooms
-3 full baths
-2 story
-2.5 car garage
-1 acre fenced


......wouldn't mind a 30x30 shop/garage though.....and like 10+ Acres

Same here, ideally I need extra buildings for cars, hobbies, etc..

My big thing is having some space for stuff like a theatre room, bar type area, and a gym, but 3-4 bedrooms is plenty

5400 sqft but really use only about 1500. 3 people.
