There are many things that happen on earth that are technically impossible on a globe.

Nobody actually knows because no human being has ever been to an altitude higher than about 67 miles above earth(see video below)
You'd have to go up thousands and perhaps tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of of miles above to even have a chance of knowing the true shape and size of earth.
If there is a firmament then going above a certain altitude is IMPOSSIBLE.
Sprite Lighting sure does seem like it's coming STRAIGHT FROM THE FIRMIMENT.
