Sony's so shaken that they think the only way to move forward is to release a bunch of gimped live-betas that piecemeal content at a premium instead of accepting that not everyone gives a damn about Mushroom Zombies, God of Soy, or Sweet Baby Spiderman. Their studios are more worried about diversity hires than Playstation having adiversity of games, which translates to people having a reason to buy a Playstation. It makes a whole lot of sense that Helldivers 2 has been such a wild success because it's so different from everything else Sony has put out.

They were coasting on third party games like Call of Duty compensating for their lack of anything that wasn't a third person narrative action game, now their main rival owns one of their most popular games. Just look atJanuary's top downloaded PS5 gamesand theirmonthly active users; there is an important trend to note that Sony appears to be oblivious towards.

Specifically, all of the popular live service games are owned by third parties or their competitor, Microsoft, but what Sony isnotconsidering is that with all of those live service games, the market isalready saturated, and most players are going to be tapped out on live services.
