Nah low barriers to entry killed the internet.

30 years ago getting on the internet required upper-middle class money and college level know-how. The average person on online forums was a high IQ adult, likely hard STEM college educated (since universities were the first to get networked computers).

Today online forums are designed to be as easy as possible to access, so they can addict you and steal your data for advertising and AI training. The type of people who fall for that kind of trap are typically lower than average IQ and unsuccessful.

Reddit’s karma and upvote system is gay. It promotes an echo chamber and also poor new user experience. When you get banned due to some power trip mod, it not only bans you from one account, it bans all your alts and when you try to create a new alt, it gets banned again when they detect same device and IP. Then if you successfully create a new account with VPN and different device, you gotta Fukn beg for karma from one of the free karma subs just to post on all the subs.

This is where Reddit can be good. I know misc loves to hate on it, and for good reason considering it is 90% brainwashed incels screeching from the safety of a screen. But there are some good topics once you get away from the ‘mainstream’ sections.
