Mario: Wonder is overrated AF

Got the game. It is good and it does look like the devs polished it but all the praise it got is overrated.

Why do I believe that? It just isn't really that fun which is the core mechanic about a videogame.

I personally find Sonic games way more fun. They are unpolished (except for the old ones) and full of bugs but the gameplay is just more fun

simply for it being the first AAA+ 2D platformer in ages it deserves praise

it it wasn't for Nintendo this genre would be limited to indies

Incredible level design and tight gameplay. Breath of fresh air when so much of the industry is focused on bloated 50+ hour narrative games.

It’s a wonderful game, pun intended.

My main criticism is that it’s way too fukin’ easy. I’m not saying it should be some Dark Souls chit but it shouldn’t be the cakewalk that it is either.

It introduced some interesting new mechanics. Having a badge with different abilities like a parachute hat or a grapple hook is pretty awesome, I hope they lean much more into this in the sequel. It's probably the biggest jump for 2D Mario since Super Mario World.
