ITT: A BASED fantasy series you've likely never heard of.

Do you like fantasy? Read GOT, Name of the Wind etc.? Have you heard of this?

It's science fiction AND fantasy in the one concept. About a dystopian future on Earth which discovers a portal to a parallel reality which is a fantasy-style universe: Elves, magic, dragons, dwarves etc. The protagonist is a dude who travels through the portal and goes on adventures to be broadcast to the audience on future Earth as a live reality show.

Deeply dark and philosophical, if you want that out of fantasy.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

I know they say you should never judge a book by its cover, but the cover is utterly balls.

Wish I had the attention span to read books. Always thought it’s a cool sophisticated hobby.

That's the reason why it isn't as well known. It had an even more utterly balls cover when it was first released. Of course, never judge a book by its cover. Wheel of Time had a cringey fukstick cover on its first release and that is a GOAT fantasy series (except for the middle of the series).

There's actually a lot of reasons to dislike you. Hell, this post alone is a great example.

Lit rpg aka portal to another fantasy realm, sometimes with an audience, is so hot right now. Unfortunately I’ve read so many of them I cannot fathom the recipe has changed much since the formula is almost always the same.

Best one I’ve read though is probably Dungeon Crawler Carl, or Mayor of Noobtown.

Both have a comedy aspect to them though, but I find them funnier than most other forms of media these days.

Don't have heroes; look up to no one. Because as long as someone's leading the way, the best you'll ever be is second.

Mornin'...."Do you like fantasy?"

Yes.
I'd recommend the Conan series by Robert E. Howard along with the ACE publisher series.
I started reading Conan during 6th grade and became hooked.
Frazetta's artwork in this series is stunning.

I also have the complete Robert Jordan series of Conan continuation of which there are several.

Hope that helps....sorry if I deviated a bit from your question.

Wasn't aware of others, which even attempt to meld the genres like this. Repped.

I've read a bit of the Conan series, Howard is a fantastic writer. Love his prose and mythos. Speaking of art, I've been using that generator to make some art for my own worldbuilding:

LOL @ negging for literally no reason whatsoever in an otherwise productive discussion. Thanks for leaving the post for me, though.
