Mass shooting tragedy in Ottawa - 6 killed, 4 children - issobolic, you okay? (srs)

I don't normally post news stories here, but I'm in this area, so is another member, issobolic I believe.

This is unbelievably tragic. I really couldn't believe what I was reading earlier. Things like this don't happen that often around here so it's always shocking.

Checking in to see if my Ottawa brahs have heard about this? There aren't too many details yet but apparently the police chief has ruled out potential spousal violence. First thing that came to mind was some kind of gang/drug retaliation, or possible disgruntled ex-partner? Either way, this is fuking terrible. Apparently the father survived. I don't even want to imagine what that amount of tragedy must be like when you realize that your entire family has basically been annihilated. Must be excruciating. How are you to recover from something like that?

Most likely gonna be some arabs or Indians honour family killing, you wont hear much about it after today because they aren't white and the media has no interest in stories where the killer isn't white.

Pretty much the same thing happened around here a few years ago. Entire Chinese family killed execution style that had all the hallmarks of a professional hit. Naturally lots of speculation of CCP operatives, etc. It took them a couple of years, but they finally caught the guy. Turned out it was a disgruntled employee that the dad had fired a couple of days earlier.

They are having the press conference now. It wasn't a gun, it was a 19 year old with a knife and one of the kids he killed was 10 weeks old. So imagine being a first responder on that scene.

No other details at the moment. I live literally five blocks from there and walk by the place all the time.

EDIT: only other detail emerging is they were Sri Lankan nationals so maybe it was an honor killing or the guy just snapped.

Police have identified five of the victims as a family of newcomers to Canada from Sri Lanka. They are:

35-year-old Darshani Banbaranayake Gama Walwwe Darshani Dilanthika Ekanyake.
Seven-year-old Inuka Wickramasinghe.
Four-year-old daughter Ashwini Wickramasinghe.
Two-year-old daughter Rinyana Wickramasinghe.
Two-month-old daughter Kelly Wickramasinghe.

Police said Ekanyake's husband was injured and is currently in hospital in stable condition.

Another man, 40-year-old Amarakoonmubiayansela Ge Gamini Amarakoon, was also killed.

Febrio De-Zoysa, 19, is charged with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Police said he is a Sri Lankan national who is believed to be in Canada as a student.

Police said De-Zoysa is also an acquaintance of the family and was living in the home at the time of the killings. He was arrested at the scene about 15 kilometres south of Ottawa's downtown core.
